چکیده

We study a notion of capacity related to elasticity which proves convenient to analyze the concentrations of strain energy caused by the rigid displacements of some infinitesimal parts of an elastic body in two or three dimensions. By way of application, we investigate the behavior of solutions to initial boundary value problems describing vibrations of periodic elastic composites with rapidly varying elastic properties. More specifically, we analyze a two-phase medium whereby a set of heavy stiff tiny particles is embedded in a softer matrix. This task is set in the context of linearized elasticity.

Characterization of Two-scale Gradient Young Measures and Application to Homogenization

Young (or Parametrized) measures have been introduced in optimal control theory by L. C. Young [39] to study non convex variational problems for which there were no classical solution, and to provide an effective notion of generalized solution for problems in Calculus of Variations. Starting with the works of Tartar [35] on hyperbolic conservation laws, Young measures have been an important too...

Analyzing Capacity Withholding in Oligopoly Electricity Markets Considering Forward Contracts and Demand Elasticity

In this paper capacity withholding in an oligopolistic electricity market that all Generation Companies (GenCos) bid in a Cournot model is analyzed and the capacity withheld index, the capacity distortion index and the price distortion index are obtained and formulated. Then a new index, Distortion-Withheld Index (DWI), is proposed in order to measure the potential ability of market for capacit...

Non-Newtonian Fuzzy numbers and related applications

Although there are many excellent ways presenting the principle of the classical calculus, the novel presentations probably leads most naturally to the development of the non-Newtonian calculus. The important point to note is that the non-Newtonian calculus is a self-contained system independent of any other system of calculus. Since this self-contained work is intended for a wide audience, inc...

Bloch Wave Homogenization of Linear Elasticity System

In this article, the homogenization process of periodic structures is analyzed using Bloch waves in the case of system of linear elasticity in three dimensions. The Bloch wave method for homogenization relies on the regularity of the lower Bloch spectrum. For the three dimensional linear elasticity system, the first eigenvalue is degenerate of multiplicity three and hence existence of such a re...

Homogenization in Fractional Elasticity

In this note we treat the equations of fractional elasticity. After establishing well-posedness, we show a compactness result related to the theory of homog-enization. For this, a previous result in (abstract) homogenization theory of evolutionary equations has to be improved. The approach also permits the consideration of non-local operators (in time and space).
