چکیده

We provide an explicit expression for the renormalized expectation value of the stressenergy tensor of a spin-1/2 field in a spatially flat Fridmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker universe. Its computation is based on the extension of the adiabatic regularization method to fermion fields introduced recently in the literature. The tensor is given in terms of UV-finite integrals in momentum space, which involve the mode functions that define the quantum state. As illustrative examples of the method efficiency, we see how to compute the renormalized energy density and pressure in two interesting cosmological scenarios: a de Sitter spacetime and a radiation-dominated universe. In the second case, we explicitly show that the late-time renormalized stress-energy tensor behaves as that of classical cold matter. We also check that, if we obtain the adiabatic expansion of the scalar field mode functions with a similar procedure to the one used for fermions, we recover the well-known WKB-type expansion.

Positivity of entropy in the semiclassical theory of black holes and radiation.

Quantum stress-energy tensors of fields renormalized on a Schwarzschild background violate the classical energy conditions near the black hole. Nevertheless, the associated equilibrium thermodynamical entropy ∆S by which such fields augment the usual black hole entropy is found to be positive. More precisely, the derivative of ∆S with respect to radius, at fixed black hole mass, is found to van...

2 Method to compute the stress - energy tensor for the massless spin 1 2 field in a general static spherically symmetric spacetime

A method for computing the stress-energy tensor for the quantized, massless, spin 12 field in a general static spherically symmetric spacetime is presented. The field can be in a zero temperature state or a non-zero temperature thermal state. An expression for the full renormalized stress-energy tensor is derived. It consists of a sum of two tensors both of which are conserved. One tensor is wr...

Conserved currents of massless fields of spin s ≥ 1 / 2

A complete and explicit classification of all locally constructed conserved currents and underlying conserved tensors is obtained for massless linear symmetric spinor fields of any spin s ≥ 1/2 in four dimensional flat spacetime. These results generalize the recent classification in the spin s = 1 case of all conserved currents locally constructed from the electromagnetic spinor field. The pres...

Effective potential of a black hole in thermal equilibrium with quantum fields.

Expectation values of one-loop renormalized thermal equilibrium stress-energy tensors of free conformal scalars, spin-12 fermions and U(1) gauge fields on a Schwarzschild black hole background are used as sources in the semi-classical Einstein equation. The back-reaction and new equilibrium metric are solved for at O(h̄) for each spin field. The nature of the modified black hole spacetime is rev...
