Geometric Systems Modeling and Design
نویسنده
چکیده
The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate a systems modeling and design approach based on universal geometry. Systems modeling and design can be enhanced with a structural representation of system requirements (which are often written), and system models (which are often mathematical). Written and mathematical approaches show system structure, boundary, and feedback either in words or equations. In contrast, this paper illustrates systems mapping onto simple three-dimensional geometric models (e.g. the tetrahedron and the octahedron). Using this methodology ensures structural integrity of the system representation or design. Loops and feedback are made explicit, and the models encourage describing all connections between parts of the system. The techniques described here are aligned with the thinking of Buckminster Fuller, who coined the term design science to describe an integrated approach to problem solving and design of the future. Geometric systems design is one technique from the field of design science. There is an expanded version of this paper online at http://www.tc.umn.edu/~ahler002/gsd2.htm

Estimation of Concentrations in Chemical Systems at Equilibrium Using Geometric Programming
Geometric programming is a mathematical technique, which has been developed for nonlinear optimization problems. This technique is based on the dual program with linear constraints. Determination of species concentrations in chemical equilibrium conditions is one of its applications in chemistry and chemical engineering fields. In this paper, the principles of geometric programming and its comp...
متن کاملTarget detection Bridge Modelling using Point Cloud Segmentation Obtained from Photogrameric UAV
In recent years, great efforts have been made to generate 3D models of urban structures in photogrammetry and remote sensing. 3D reconstruction of the bridge, as one of the most important urban structures in transportation systems, has been neglected because of its geometric and structural complexity. Due to the UAV technology development in spatial data acquisition, in this study, the point cl...
متن کاملFunction-Oriented Geometric Design Approach To Surface Micromachined MEMS
Geometric modeling is an important aspect of MEMS design. It not only creates geometric model for visual evaluation, but also supplies input for device performance analysis. This paper focuses on developing a feature-based geometric design methodology that enables designers to create fabrication-ready 3D models of MEMS devices without concerning the mask layout. Compared with present geometric ...
متن کاملAn Investigation of Integrating Design by Features and Feature Recognition
1 Currently with HKS 2 Corresponding author ([email protected]) ABSTRACT Feature technology has been evolving since the early 1980s, yet is still found in few commercial CAD systems. Traditional CAD systems provide support for geometric design and limited parametric design. Two basic approaches to feature modeling have been developed: design by features and feature recognition. Each of these me...

The nascent field of computational topology holds great promise for resolving several long-standing industrial design modeling challenges. Geometric modeling has become commonplace in industry as manifested by the critical use of Computer Aided Geometric Design (CAGD) systems within the automotive, aerospace, shipbuilding and consumer product industries. Commercial CAGD packages depend upon com...
متن کاملUsing Geometric Constraints to Capture Design Intent
With the use of geometric constraints, parametric and variational solid modeling systems enable designers to incorporate relationships between geometric entities into the geometric model and thereby control potential changes in geometry. The objective of developing these constraints or relations is to capture the intent of the designer and restrict changes that may be made by other users of the...
