چکیده

Bilateral filter based tone mapping for rendering High Dynamic Range (HDR) images can not display all details in dark or highlight areas of an image. In order to solve the problem, we propose a Local Adaptive Bilateral Filter (LABF) method having threefold improvement over the bilateral filter based method. First, since less correlation between luminance and chrominance can produce better performance, we choose YUV color space with less correlation between luminance and chrominance, and only the luminance component Y is compressed. Second, to imitate the human response to light, we adjust the logarithmic base adaptively depending on each pixel's luminance value. This strategy can provide good contrast and detail preservation in dark areas while achieving the compression of high luminance range. Third, we propose an improved center/surround method to enhance visibility in the highlight or relatively darker areas further, which is a non-linear function with a weighted average of surrounding pixel values serving a variable. The experimental results show that the proposed method LABF can obtain satisfactory results on various images with different scene contents.

Tone-mapping high dynamic range images by novel histogram adjustment

In this paper, we present novel histogram adjustment methods for displaying high dynamic range image. We first present a global histogram adjustment based tone mapping operator, which well reproduces global contrast for high dynamic range images. We then segment images and carry out adaptive contrast adjustment using our global tone mapping operator in the local regions to reproduce local contr...

Adaptive Logarithmic Mapping For Displaying High Contrast Scenes

We propose a fast, high quality tone mapping technique to display high contrast images on devices with limited dynamic range of luminance values. The method is based on logarithmic compression of luminance values, imitating the human response to light. A bias power function is introduced to adaptively vary logarithmic bases, resulting in good preservation of details and contrast. To improve con...

Adaptive Dynamic Range Reduction for SAR Images

The visualization of SAR images involves the mapping of high dynamic range amplitude values to gray levels for lower dynamic range display devices. This dynamic range reduction process determines the visibility of details in the displayed result. It is therefore an important part of SAR visualization systems. The problem of dynamic range reduction for SAR images is related to the tone mapping p...

Surround-Adaptive Local Contrast Enhancement for Preserved Detail Perception in HDR Images

In high dynamic range rendering technology, tone mapping operators cause loss in terms of image quality. In order to compensate the defect, we use the base-detail decomposition before tone mapping and attempt to compensate details in bright area of an image using a surround-adaptive sharpening filter. It is effective to bright surround images which are sensitive to human eyes. It is confirmed t...

Clustering Based Local Tone Mapping Algorithm for Displaying Hdr Images on Ldr Devices

In order to display HDR (High Dynamic Range) images with increased dynamic range on LDR (Low Dynamic Range) monitors, it is necessary to perform a tone mapping technique, which is a process of compressing a dynamic range of an image. Representative techniques are global tone mapping and local tone mapping. Though global tone mapping is simple to compute, it has low local contrast and loses deta...
