Object oriented data concepts for SDL

چکیده

With the 1992 revision of SDL [1], object oriented structuring concepts were introduced into the language. However, some object oriented concepts known from modern languages are still missing, e.g. exception handling and references, which are related to polymorphism as well as late binding of operators. The main reason for these lacks is the formal base of data types ACT ONE [2]. This algebraic calculus makes it more difficult to introduce those concepts. Today‘s applications of SDL are embedded in system designs together with other specification techniques, e.g. IDL [10]. The interaction with these additional techniques requires the extension of SDL with modern language concepts. Humboldt University developed solutions which are implemented in the SDL Integrated Tool Environment (SITE). These solutions are being presented to the ITU-T for standardization in the next revision of SDL.

SDL-2000: A Language with a Formal Semantics

A new version of SDL called SDL-2000 is currently reaching maturity, and is expected to pass the standardization bodies shortly. It will offer new features as object-oriented data types, simplify and unify concepts of previous language versions and provide an alignment with UML. Due to the significant changes to SDL it was necessary to define a new formal semantics for SDL. Abstract State Machi...

An IDL to SDL2000 compiler

Distributed systems evolution has led telecommunication management network (TMN) systems to use object-oriented middleware paradigm, mainly CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture). CORBA only includes a mechanism for defining object interfaces not for specifying the behaviour of these objects. The behaviour of a TMN system has to follow concrete and restrictive specifications, which a...

Modelling SDL, Modelling Languages

Today’s so˜ware systems are too complex to implement them and model themusing only one language. We use object oriented metamodelling to desc...

Experiences of Modelling and Using Object-oriented Telecommunication Service Frameworks in Sdl

This paper describes experiences in using SDL and its associated tools to create telecommunication services by producing and specialising object oriented frame works The chosen approach recognises the need for the rapid creation of validated telecommunication services It introduces two stages to service creation rstly a software expert produces a service framework and secondly a telecommunicati...

Tutorial on Message Sequence Charts

An introduction to the ITU standard language Message Sequence Chart (MSC) is provided. It is pointed out that MSC in many respects is complementary to the ITU specii-cation and design language SDL. MSC in combination with SDL or other languages, now plays a role in nearly all stages of the system development process. Since MSC has been standardized in the same study group as SDL, the language f...
