Commissioning of the ATLAS Pixel Detector
نویسنده
چکیده
The ATLAS Pixel Detector is the innermost detector of the ATLAS experiment at LHC. Approximately 80 million silicon sensors allow to detect particle tracks and secondary vertices with very high precision. The ATLAS Pixel Detector is now in its final commissioning phase. A full characterization and qualification of the detector is currently performed: calibration procedures, special DAQ runs for noise studies and combined operations with other ATLAS subdetectors using cosmic-ray events are ongoing. All the aspects of the detector operation including the DAQ system, the calibration procedures, and the first cosmic run results are summarized.

The ATLAS Insertable B-Layer: from construction to operation
The ATLAS Insertable B-Layer (IBL) is a fourth layer of pixel detectors, and has been installed in May 2014 at a radius of 3.3 cm from the beam axis and between the existing Pixel detector and a new smaller radius beam-pipe. The new detector, built to cope with high radiation and occupancy, is the first large scale application of 3D detectors and CMOS 130 nm technology. The IBL detector constru...
متن کاملATLAS Inner Detector: Commissioning with Cosmics Data
The ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has started taking data in Autumn 2008 with the inauguration of the LHC. The determination of vertex position and charged particle tracks is performed in the Inner Detector which consists of pixel and microstrip silicon sensors and of straw drift tubes with transition radiation detector capability. All three subdetectors were run in s...
متن کاملResults from the commissioning of the ATLAS Pixel Detector with cosmic ray data
The ATLAS Pixel Detector is one of the largest silicon pixel hybrid detectors in the world. It has a total active area of 1.7 m of silicon read out every 25 ns by approximately 80 million electronic channels. It is the innermost tracking detector of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, designed to measure particle tracks and decay vertices with a very high precision ...
متن کاملCommissioning and performance of the ATLAS Inner Detector with the first beam and cosmic data
The ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) started data-taking in Autumn 2008 with the inauguration of the LHC. The Inner Detector is a tracking system for charged particles based on three technologies: silicon pixels, silicon microstrips and drift tubes. The detector was commissioned and calibrated in the ATLAS cavern. Cosmic muons data are used for timing the different compo...
متن کاملReadiness of the Atlas Experiment for First Data
The ATLAS detector is one of the experiments at the LHC that will detect high-energy proton collisions at 14 TeV. The commissioning of the detector has started already in 2005 in parallel to the detector installation and is still in progress. The data taken so far corresponds to noise runs, cosmic muon events and beam background events from single beam in September 2008. We present the current ...
