1.1 Background Processor simulation is often a cornerstone in the research of new processor concepts and the education of computer architecture students. Simulators are used by researchers to validate architecture designs and explore new concepts before actual implementation. Educators use simulators to elucidate concepts in computer architecture through hands-on exercises and demonstrations. To be useful for both researchers and educators, simulators must be flexible, easy to use, easy to understand, and fast.
