Automatic surface modelling of a ship hull
نویسندگان
چکیده
When defining a ship hull surface, the main objective is to obtain a faired surface or surfaces that contain some specific points of the hull, that have been selected in the design process and give the ship its hydrodynamic, stability and other properties. So, the hull surface should be a compromise between fairness and precision, and this is not and easy task. In this paper, authors present a thorough procedure for automatic modelling with a fair NURBS surface, having lists of points on the stations of the vessel as initial data. The construction of spline curves, and their application in the definition of ship lines is reviewed. Approximation of spline curves fitting the data on the stations is made, with special emphasis on the choice of parametrization, which is relevant to increase the accuracy of the splines. NURBS surfaces modelling the hull of the vessel are constructed and the fairing process adapted to maintain certain ship characteristics is described. q 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Numerical Calculations of Ship Induced Waves
Nowadays, various numerical methods are developed to extend computational fluid dynamics in engineering applications. One of the most useful methods in free surface modeling is Boundary Element Method (BEM). BEM is used to model inviscid fluid flow such as flow around ships. BEM solutions employ surface mesh at all of the boundaries. In order to model the linear free surface, BEM can be modifie...
متن کاملAn Optimized Ship Hull Fitting Approach Using Nurbs
Ship hull form module is the main module in ship design. The problem of creating fair ship hull surface is of major importance in Computer Aided Ship Design environment. The fitness of these surfaces is generally considered a subjective notion depending on the judgment of the designers (eg. visually pleasing, devoid of unnecessary bumps or wiggles, satisfying certain continuity requirements). O...
متن کاملAutomatic Hull Form Optimisation towards Lower Resistance and Wash Using Artificial Intelligence
This paper describes the procedure developed at MARINTEK for the automatic optimisation of hull lines to reduce the ship resistance as well as the wake wash generated by a ship within the given constraints. The methodology, developed computer programs and used constraints are described. The methodology is exercised using lines of a fast ship. A numerical comparison is performed between the resi...
متن کاملA Modelling of Springing, Whipping and Slamming for Ships
The slamming phenomenon is a violent impact of the hull of a ship on the free surface of the sea. This loading case is particularly difficult to modelize for several reasons: first of all, the wet surface of the hull is an unknown; then a coupling with the springing (flexibility of the ship) is very complex and finally the interaction with the waves (even if the eigenfrequencies of the structur...
متن کاملCONSIDERATION OF DESIGN FOR PRODUCTION PRINCIPLES IN SHIP HULL DESIGN
In designing for ship production, the production method should be considered and it’s possible to reduce the manufacturing cost in designing procedure. A review of background of ship design that had minimized production costs, shows the principles and problems of these methods. Modern designing methods for manufacturing, considers hydrodynamic efficiency and less manufacturing cost. Quant...
