Pentavalent pillar[5]arene-based glycoclusters and their multivalent binding to pathogenic bacterial lectins.

Anti-adhesive glycoclusters offer potential as therapeutic alternatives to classical antibiotics in treating infections. Pillar[5]arenes functionalised with either five galactose or five fucose residues were readily prepared using CuAAC reactions and evaluated for their binding to three therapeutically relevant bacterial lectins: LecA and Lec B from Pseudomonas aeuruginosa and BambL from Burkho...

Porphyrinic supramolecular daisy chains incorporating pillar[5]arene-viologen host-guest interactions.

A porphyrin functionalised with pillar[5]arene and a viologen at its 5- and 15-meso positions assembles in a head-to-tail manner, producing linear supramolecular daisy chains in dichloromethane. At high concentrations, it forms an organogel which has been investigated by electron microscopy and rheological measurements, paving the way for the preparation of other functional supramolecular assem...

Pillar[5]arene-based nonionic polyrotaxanes and a topological gel prepared from cyclic host liquids.

We synthesize nonionic polymer-based polyrotaxanes in solvent systems based on pillar[5]arene cyclic host liquids. Using a reactive liquid, pillar[5]arene enabled synthesis of a nonionic topological gel.

Selective complexation of n-alkanes with pillar[5]arene dimers in organic media.

A pillar[5]arene dimer was synthesized by linking a mono-hydroxylated pillar[5]arene with 1,4-bis(bromomethyl)benzene. The pillar[5]arene dimer formed stronger complexes with n-alkanes than did a monomeric pillar[5]arene.
