Inferring mirror symmetric 3D shapes from sketches

چکیده
We describe a system for taking a 2D sketch of a mirror-symmetric 3D shape and lifting the curves to 3D, inferring the symmetry relationship from the original hand-drawn curves. The system takes as input a hand-drawn sketch and generates a set of 3D curves such that their orthogonal projection matches the input sketch. The main contribution is a method which is able to identify the symmetry relationship among the hand-drawn curves even in the presence of ambiguity in the sketch. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd. Modeling 3D animals from a side-view sketch
Using 2D contour sketches as input is an attractive solution for easing the creation of 3D models. This paper tackles the problem of creating 3D models of animals from a single, side-view sketch. We use the a priori assumptions of smoothness and structural symmetry of the animal about the sagittal plane to inform the 3D reconstruction. Our contributions include methods for identifying and infer...
متن کاملQuantitative Analysis of Continuous Symmetry
Symmetry is typically viewed as a discrete feature: an object is either symmetric or non-symmetric. However visual perception treats symmetry as a continuous feature, relating to statements such asòne object is MORE symmetric than another' oràn object is MORE mirror symmetric than rotational symmetric'. With this notion in mind, we view symmetry as a continuous feature and dene a Continuous Sym...
متن کاملMarrNet: 3D Shape Reconstruction via 2.5D Sketches
3D object reconstruction from a single image is a highly under-determined problem, requiring strong prior knowledge of plausible 3D shapes. This introduces challenges for learning-based approaches, as 3D object annotations are scarce in real images. Previous work chose to train on synthetic data with ground truth 3D information, but suffered from domain adaptation when tested on real data. In t...
متن کامل3D Sketching with Profile Curves
In recent years, 3D sketching has gained popularity as an efficient alternative to conventional 3D geometric modeling for rapid prototyping, as it allows the user to intuitively generate a large range of different shapes. In this paper, we present some sketching interactions for 3D modeling, based on a set of two different bidimensional sketches (profile curve and silhouette curve). By using th...
متن کاملBinocular 3D Object Recovery Using a Symmetry Prior
We present a new algorithm for 3D shape reconstruction from stereo image pairs that uses mirror symmetry as a biologically inspired prior. 3D reconstruction requires some form of prior because it is an ill-posed inverse problem. Psychophysical research shows that mirror-symmetry is a key prior for 3D shape perception in humans, suggesting that a general purpose solution to this problem will hav...
