Multicommodity flow problems with a bounded number of paths: A flow deviation approach

چکیده
We propose a modified version of the Flow Deviation method of Fratta, Gerla and Kleinrock to solve multicommodity problems with minimal congestion and a bounded number of active paths. We discuss the approximation of the min-max objective function by a separable convex potential function and give a mixed-integer non linear model for the constrained routing problem. A heuristic control of the path generation is then embedded in the original algorithm based on the concepts of cleaning the quasi inactive paths and the reduction of the flow width for each commodity. Numerical experiments show the validity of the approach for realistic medium-size networks associated with routing problems in broadband communication networks with multiple protocols and label-switched paths (MPLS).

A Multicommodity Network Flow with Inverse Linear Constraints
In many application areas engineering, communications, logistics, manufacturing, transportation, different non-homogeneous commodities are distributed over the same underlying network. Usually the separate commodities share common arc capacities that restrict the integrated flow of the gross commodities on the arc. Furthermore, there exists a mutual interaction between the commodities. The ge...

This paper considers the problem of designing fast, approximate, combinatorial algorithms for multicommodity flows and other fractional packing problems. We provide a different approach to these problems which yields faster and much simpler algorithms. Our approach also allows us to substitute shortest path computations for min-cost flow computations in computing maximum concurrent flow and min...
متن کاملUsing Circuit Variables to Accelerate Column Generation in Planar Multicommodity Flows
In this work we present a way of accelerating a column generation algorithm for the linear minimum cost multicommodity flow problem. We use a new model that, besides the usual variables corresponding to flows on paths, has a polynomial number of extra variables, corresponding to flows on circuits. Those extra variables are explicitly considered in the restricted master problem, from the beginni...
متن کاملA Simulated Annealing Algorithm for Unsplittable Capacitated Network Design
The Network Design Problem (NDP) is one of the important problems in combinatorial optimization. Among the network design problems, the Multicommodity Capacitated Network Design (MCND) problem has numerous applications in transportation, logistics, telecommunication, and production systems. The MCND problems with splittable flow variables are NP-hard, which means they require exponential time t...
متن کاملM ay 2 01 2 Faster Approximate Multicommodity Flow Using Quadratically Coupled Flows ∗
The maximum multicommodity flow problem is a natural generalization of the maximum flow problem to route multiple distinct flows. Obtaining a 1 − ǫ approximation to the multicommodity flow problem on graphs is a well-studied problem. In this paper we present an adaptation of recent advances in single-commodity flow algorithms to this problem. As the underlying linear systems in the electrical p...
