Mechanical Efficiency, Energetic Cost and Mechanical Work in the Human Running

چکیده
This study aims at correlate Wmec and Cr with Eff. Twelve healthy men volunteered in the study. Wmec and Cr were measured during a treadmill running test which consisted in a rest period, incremental warm up and running test at 10km.h -1 . The biomechanical data, rest oxygen consumption (VO2) and exercise VO2 data were obtained. Relationships between variables were investigated using Pearson’s product–moment correlation coefficient (α<0.05). The results demonstrated a strong significant correlation only between Eff and Wmec (r =0.67). Meanwhile, the correlations between Eff and Cr (r=-0.55), and Wmec with Cr (r=0.22) were not significant. Therefore, it’s believed that Eff of running is mainly influenced by Wmec instead of Cr. Furthermore, it seems that the energy cost has greater influence of intrinsic factors (as the muscle force generation) and not only by the production of movement.

Mechanics and energetics of human locomotion on sand.
Moving about in nature often involves walking or running on a soft yielding substratum such as sand, which has a profound effect on the mechanics and energetics of locomotion. Force platform and cinematographic analyses were used to determine the mechanical work performed by human subjects during walking and running on sand and on a hard surface. Oxygen consumption was used to determine the ene...
متن کاملA Parametric Study on Exergy and Exergoeconomic Analysis of a Diesel Engine based Combined Heat and Power System
This paper presents exergy and exergoeconomic analysis and parametric study of a Diesel engine based Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system that produces 277 kW of electricity and 282 kW of heat. For this purpose, the CHP system is first thermodynamically analyzed through energy and exergy. Then cost balances and auxiliary equations are applied to subsystems. The exergoeconomic analysis is based ...
متن کاملAlteration in cardiac uncoupling proteins and eNOS gene expression following high-intensity interval training in favor of increasing mechanical efficiency
Objective(s):High-intensity interval training (HIIT) increases energy expenditure and mechanical energy efficiency. Although both uncoupling proteins (UCPs) and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) affect the mechanical efficiency and antioxidant capacity, their effects are inverse. The aim of this study was to determine whether the alterations of cardiac UCP2, UCP3, and eNOS mRNA expressio...
متن کاملDynamics of a Running Below-Knee Prosthesis Compared to Those of a Normal Subject
The normal human running has been simulated by two-dimensional biped model with 7 segments. Series of normal running experiments were performed and data of ground reaction forces measured by force plate was analyzed and was fitted to some Fourier series. The model is capable to simulate running for different ages and weights at different running speeds. A proportional derivative control algorit...
متن کاملThe energetic benefits of tendon springs in running: is the reduction of muscle work important?
The distal muscle-tendon units of cursorial species are commonly composed of short muscle fibres and long, compliant tendons. It is assumed that the ability of these tendons to store and return mechanical energy over the course of a stride, thus avoiding the cyclic absorption and regeneration of mechanical energy by active muscle, offers some metabolic energy savings during running. However, th...
