A parallel workload model and its implications
نویسنده
چکیده
We develop a workload model based on the observed behavior of parallel computers at the San Diego Supercomputer Center and the Cornell Theory Center. This model gives us insight into the performance of strategies for scheduling malleable jobs on space-sharing parallel computers. We nd that Adaptive Static Partitioning (ASP), which has been reported to work well for other workloads, is inferior to some FIFO strategies that adapt better to system load. The best of the strategies we consider is one that explicitly restricts cluster sizes when load is high (a variation of Sevcik's A+ strategy 13]).

Load Balancing Factor (lbf): a Workload Migration Metric
We introduce a new performance metric, called Load Balancing Factor (LBF), to evaluate different tuning alternatives of workload migration within a distributed/parallel program. The metric is unique because it shows the performance implications of a specific tuning alternative rather than quantifying where time is spent in the program. Previously we developed a variation of the metric for coars...
متن کاملParleda: a Library for Parallel Processing in Computational Geometry Applications
ParLeda is a software library that provides the basic primitives needed for parallel implementation of computational geometry applications. It can also be used in implementing a parallel application that uses geometric data structures. The parallel model that we use is based on a new heterogeneous parallel model named HBSP, which is based on BSP and is introduced here. ParLeda uses two main lib...
متن کاملBounds on series-parallel slowdown
We use activity networks (task graphs) to model parallel programs and consider series-parallel extensions of these networks. Our motivation is two-fold: the benefits of series-parallel activity networks and the modelling of programming constructs, such as those imposed by current parallel computing environments. Series-parallelisation adds precedence constraints to an activity network, usually ...
متن کاملResearching into experiences of different countries in Economic Resilience; Some implications to achieve an operational model of Resilience in Iranian Economy
Researching into experiences of different countries shows that these countries adopt actions and policies according to their special conditions that can be interpret as a form of resistance the economic system. This paper used a library study method for experiences and actions of different countries and finally suggested some key ideas to achieve an operational model of Resilience in Iranian Ec...
