Type Inference for the Mixture of Matching and Implicit Subtyping

چکیده
We present a type inference system for a language with object-oriented features such as polymorphic record access and subtyping. We separate the notion of matching and subtyping in order to avoid di culties caused by recursive type constraints. We will use two kinds of type constraints | record (variant) constraints and subtyping constraints. Then, we discuss simpli cation of such mixed type constraints and show that simpli cation becomes much easier by the separation.

Simpli cation of Subtyping Constraints and Its Application for Monadic Programming
We discuss type inference for a language which supports both polymorphic records (variants) and implicit subtyping | useful features for object-oriented programming. We extend subtyping relation to type constructor variables. We show that such extension is especially useful for typing monadic-style functional programs, that is, imperative-style programs written in a purely functional language s...
متن کاملSubtyping Constrained Types ( Draft ) Valery Trifonov
Constrained type systems are a natural generalization of Hindley/Milner type inference to languages with subtyping. This paper develops several subtyping relations on constrained types. We establish a full type abstraction property that equates an operational notion of subtyping with a semantic notion based on regular trees. The decidability of this notion of subtyping is open; we present a dec...
متن کاملSubtyping Constrained Types
A constrained type is a type that comes with a set of subtyping constraints on variables occurring in the type. Constrained type inference systems are a natural generalization of Hindley/Milner type inference to languages with subtyping. This paper develops several subtyping relations on polymorphic constrained types of a general form that allows recursive constraints and multiple bounds on typ...
متن کاملA type system for embedded rewriting languages with associative pattern matching : from theory to practice
Programmers are often interested in a way to write error-free programs, i.e. to avoid undesired behaviors. In this context, a type system was conceived as the formal method for specification and proof of programs written in the Tom rewriting language. The Tom programming language is an extension of Java that adds pattern matching, more particularly associative pattern matching, and reduction st...

The Seventh International Workshop on Foundations of Object-Oriented Languages (FOOL 7) was held on January 22, 2000, and it was colocated with the ACM Symposium on Principles of Programming Languages in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Martı́n Abadi chaired the program committee, which received 19 submissions and accepted 6 of them. After the workshop, extended versions of 4 articles were solicited ...
