چکیده

Nikunj Raghuvanshi: Interactive Physically-based Sound Simulation. (Under the direction of Ming C. Lin.) The realization of interactive, immersive virtual worlds requires the ability to present a realistic audio experience that convincingly compliments their visual rendering. Physical simulation is a natural way to achieve such realism, enabling deeply immersive virtual worlds. However, physically-based sound simulation is very computationally expensive owing to the high-frequency, transient oscillations underlying audible sounds. The increasing computational power of desktop computers has served to reduce the gap between required and available computation, and it has become possible to bridge this gap further by using a combination of algorithmic improvements that exploit the physical, as well as perceptual properties of audible sounds. My thesis is a step in this

Survey of Methods for Modeling Sound Propagation in Interactive Virtual Environment Systems

This paper surveys concepts, algorithms, and systems for modeling sound propagation in interactive virtual environment applications. First, we review physically-based geometric algorithms for modeling the propagation of early arriving sound waves. Second, we describe perceptually-based statistical techniques that provide late reverberation effects. Finally, we compare auditory display systems t...

Model based interactive sound for an immersive virtual environment

We discuss an audio rendering pipeline that provides real-time interactive sound synthesis for virtual environments. Sounds are controlled by computational models including experimental scientific systems. We discuss composition protocols and software architecture for hierarchical control and for synchronization with graphics. Rendering algorithms are presented for producing sound from a physic...

Physically-based audio rendering of contact

This paper describes an algorithm for real-time synthesis of contact sounds for interactive simulations and animation. The algorithm is derived from a physically-based impact model, and the acoustic characteristics of colliding objects can be realistically simulated by properly adjusting the physical parameters of the model. A technique for describing the spatial dynamics of a resonating object...

River Flow Simulation Using SWAT Physically Based Model in Barandouzchay of Urmia Lake River Basin

Nowadays, there are too many models in the world for simulation of hydrological processes, such as the SWAT physically based model. The SWAT model is a continuous and physically based hydrologic model that is the smallest unit in this model is Hydrologic Response Unit, and all hydrological processes are simulated in each of these units. This model can simulate runoff, sedimentation, erosion and...

Interactive Edge-Diffraction for Sound Propagation in Complex Virtual Environments

We present an algorithm for interactive computation of diffraction paths for geometric-acoustics in complex environments. Our method extends ray-frustum tracing [Lauterbach et al. 2007] to efficiently compute volumetric regions of the sound field caused by long diffracting edges. We compute accurate diffraction paths from each source to the listener and based on the Uniform Theory of Diffractio...
