چکیده

In this work we propose a stabilized explicit coupling scheme for fluid-structure interaction problems involving a viscous incompressible fluid. The coupled discrete formulation is based on Nitsche’s method with a time penalty term giving L-control on the fluid pressure variations at the interface. The scheme is stable, in the energy norm, irrespectively of the fluid-structure density ratio. Numerical experiments, in two and three dimensions, show that optimal time accuracy can be obtained by performing a few defect-correction iterations. Investigation of Fluid-structure Interaction by Explicit Central Finite Difference Methods

Fluid-structure interaction (FSI) occurs when the dynamic water hammer forces; cause vibrations in the pipe wall. FSI in pipe systems due to Poisson and junction coupling has been the center of attention in recent years. It causes fluctuations in pressure heads and vibrations in the pipe wall. The governing equations of this phenomenon include a system of first order hyperbolic partial differen...

Numerical modeling of machining processes is of significance in the parametric analysis and optimization of their performance. In this paper, a finite element-based model of abrasive waterjet (AWJ) cutting of a ductile material is presented with the help of an explicit, nonlinear finite element method. In this model, both solid-solid interaction and fluid-structure interaction are considered. T...

Simulation of fluid-structure interaction with the interface artificial compressibility method

Partitioned fluid-structure interaction simulations of the arterial system are difficult due to the incompressibility of the fluid and the shape of the domain. The interface artificial compressibility method (IAC) mitigates the incompressibility constraint by adding a source term to the continuity equation in the fluid domain adjacent to the fluid-structure interface. This source term imitates ...

Robin Based Semi-Implicit Coupling in Fluid-Structure Interaction: Stability Analysis and Numerics

In this report, we propose a semi-implicit coupling scheme for the numerical simulation of fluid-structure interaction systems involving a viscous incompressible fluid. The scheme is stable irrespectively of the so-called addedmass effect and allows for conservative time-stepping within the structure. The efficiency of the scheme is based on the explicit splitting of the viscous effects and geo...

The Particle Finite Element Method. an Overview

We present a general formulation for analysis of fluid-structure interaction problems using the particle finite element method (PFEM). The key feature of the PFEM is the use of a Lagrangian description to model the motion of nodes (particles) in both the fluid and the structure domains. Nodes are thus viewed as particles which can freely move and even separate from the main analysis domain repr...
