Hidden Hot Dark Matter as Cold Dark Matter

We show that hidden hot dark matter, hidden-sector dark matter with interactions that decouple when it is relativistic, is a viable dark matter candidate provided it has never been in thermal equilibrium with the particles of the standard model. This hidden hot dark matter may reheat to a lower temperature and number density than the visible Universe and thus account, simply with its thermal ab...

Cold + Hot Dark Matter after Super-kamiokande

The recent atmospheric neutrino data from Super-Kamiokande provide strong evidence of neutrino oscillations and therefore of non-zero neutrino mass. These data imply a lower limit on the hot dark matter (i.e., light neutrino) contribution to the cosmological density Ων > ∼ 0.001 — almost as much as that of all the stars in the universe — and permit higher Ων . The “standard” COBE-normalized cri...

The Hot Dark Matter

There is a puzzling contradiction: direct observations favor a low-mass-density universe (0.2 ≤ Ωm ≤ 0.6), but the only model which fits universe structure over more than three orders of magnitude in distance scale has a mix of hot (neutrino) and cold dark matter providing a critical density universe. Models of an open universe (low Ωm) or one adding a cosmological constant (Λ) to provide a cri...

A Short History of the Missing Mass and Dark Energy Paradigms

In 1900 it was believed that almost 100% of the mass of the Universe resided in stars. Now, in the year 2000, such stars (and cold gas) are known to account for only ∼1% its mass. The remaining mass of the Universe is thought to reside in hot baryons (∼3%), cold dark matter (∼30%) and dark energy (∼66%). The present paper traces the evolution of our thinking about the density of the Universe du...

Dark Matter and Dark Energy: a Scenario of Ac- celerating Universe

Dark matter, the major component of the matter content of the Universe, played a significant role at early stages during structure formation. But at present the Universe is dark energy dominated as well as accelerating. Here, the presence of dark matter has been established by including a time-dependent Λ term in the field equations. This model is compatible with the idea of an accelerating Uni...
