Serial Coronary Imaging of EarlyAtherosclerosis Development inFast-Food-Fed Diabetic and Nondiabetic Swine

چکیده
HIGHLIGHTS In swine with and without diabetes mellitus fed a fast-food diet: OCT, NIRS, CCTA, vascular function testing, and histology can be consecutively and longitudinally performed to assess gradual coronary atherosclerosis development OCT and NIRS enabled detailed assessment of early coronary atherosclerosis development, whereas CCTA was not able to detect discrete early atherosclerotic changes. histology demonstrated no differences in early atherosclerosis development.

Background: Peptide apelin regulates appetite and food intake and responses to exercise. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of 7-week aerobic training on food intake and appetite-regulating hormone "apelin" in male diabetic rats. Methods: Twenty-one diabetic male Wistar rats were allocated into non-diabetic, control diabetic and trained diabetic group (7-week running at mod...
متن کاملNeoatherosclerosis development following bioresorbable vascular scaffold implantation in diabetic and non-diabetic swine
BACKGROUND DM remains a risk factor for poor outcome after stent-implantation, but little is known if and how DM affects the vascular response to BVS. AIM The aim of our study was to examine coronary responses to bioresorbable vascular scaffolds (BVS) in swine with and without diabetes mellitus fed a 'fast-food' diet (FF-DM and FF-NDM, respectively) by sequential optical coherence tomography ...
متن کاملValue of coronary artery calcium scanning by computed tomography for predicting coronary heart disease in diabetic subjects.
OBJECTIVE The South Bay Heart Watch is a cohort study designed to determine the significance of coronary calcium in high-risk asymptomatic patients. This is a report of the relative risk (RR) for outcomes of coronary artery calcium in diabetic and nondiabetic subjects. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS A total of 1312 diabetic and nondiabetic subjects underwent risk factor screening and computed to...
متن کاملDiabetes-induced accelerated atherosclerosis in swine.
Patients with diabetes are at higher risk for atherosclerotic disease than nondiabetic individuals with other comparable risk factors. Studies examining mechanisms underlying diabetes-accelerated atherosclerosis have been limited by the lack of suitable humanoid animal models. In this study, diabetes was superimposed on a well-characterized swine model of atherosclerosis by injection of the bet...
متن کاملIncreased endothelin-induced Ca2+ signaling, tyrosine phosphorylation, and coronary artery disease in diabetic dyslipidemic Swine are prevented by atorvastatin.
Endothelin-1 (ET-1) signaling mechanisms have been implicated in the pathogenesis of excess coronary artery disease in diabetic dyslipidemia. We hypothesized that in diabetic dyslipidemia ET-1-induced coronary smooth muscle calcium (Ca2+m) and tyrosine phosphorylation would be increased, and the lipid lowering agent, atorvastatin, would inhibit these increases. Male Yucatan miniature swine grou...
