چکیده

This paper proposes a thermodynamics based approach for the boundary control of distributed single phase reactive systems in one spatial dimension. More precisely, this approach is motivated by the so-called thermodynamic availability directly derived from the concavity of the entropy function for homogeneous mixtures. On this basis, a general connection to the boundary control is developed for the case of tubular reactors by selecting an appropriate inputoutput pair. In this control framework, we shall show that to be (strictly) passive, a necessary and sufficient condition for the dissipation that is strongly related to the transport phenomena and chemical reaction has to be fulfilled. Consequently, a proportional boundary feedback control law globally stabilizes the reactor at a desired stationary profile. For a simple study without convection, the dissipation condition holds thanks to the irreversible entropy production.

Simulation of Styrene Polymerization in Arbitrary Cross-Sectional Duct Reactors by Boundary-Fitted Coordinate Transformation Method

The non-orthogonal boundary-fitted coordinate transformation method is applied to the solution of steady three-dimensional conservation equations of mass, momentum, energy and speciescontinuity to obtain the laminar velocity, temperature and concentration fields for simulation of polymerization of styrene in arbitrary cross-sectional duct reactors. Variable physical properties (except for speci...

Dissipativity-based Globally Convergent Observer Design for a Class of Tubular Reactors

The problem of designing a globally convergent observer for a class of tubular reactors with boundary measurements is addressed. The problem is tackled by extending a dissipativity theory-based observer design for nonlinear finite-dimensional systems, which has been recently applied to a class of continuous stirred tank reactors. The underlying idea of the proposed observer approach consists in...

Generic Optimal Temperature Profiles for a Class of Jacketed Tubular Reactors

This paper deals with the optimal and safe operation of jacketed tubular reactors. Despite the existence of advanced distributed controllers, optimal steady-state reference profiles to be tracked are often unknown. In Logist et al. [2008], a procedure which combines analytical and numerical optimal control techniques, has been proposed for deriving optimal analytical (and thus generic) referenc...

Assessment of various rotor tip geometries on a single stage gas turbine performance

Tip leakage loss introduces major part of losses of the rotor in axial gas turbines. Therefore, the rotor blade tip has a considerable effect on rotor efficiency. To understand the flow physics of the rotor tip leakage, we solve the flow field for different tip platforms (passive flow control) and by considering coolant tip injection (active flow control). Various blade tip configurations s...

Energy Dissipation Rate Control Via a Semi-Analytical Pattern Generation Approach for Planar Three-Legged Galloping Robot based on the Property of Passive Dynamic Walking

In this paper an Energy Dissipation Rate Control (EDRC) method is introduced, which could provide stable walking or running gaits for legged robots. This method is realized by developing a semi-analytical pattern generation approach for a robot during each Single Support Phase (SSP). As yet, several control methods based on passive dynamic walking have been proposed by researchers to provide an...
