چکیده

Finding an implicit polynomial that fits a set of observations X is the goal of many researches in recent years. However, most existing algorithms assume the knowledge of the degree of the implicit polynomial that best represents the points. This paper presents two main contributions. First, a new distance measure between X and the implicit polynomial is defined. Second, this distance is used to define an algorithm able to find the degree of the polynomial needed for the representation of the data set. The proposed algorithm is based on the idea of gradually increase the degree, while there is an improvement in the smoothness of the solutions. The experiments confirm the validity of the approach for the selected 2D and 3D datasets. © 2017 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Fitting Curves and Surfaces With Constrained Implicit Polynomials

A problem which often arises while fitting implicit polynomials to 2D and 3D data sets is the following: Although the data set is simple, the fit exhibits undesired phenomena, such as loops, holes, extraneous components, etc. Previous work tackled these problems by optimizing heuristic cost functions, which penalize some of these topological problems in the fit. This paper suggests a different ...

Affine Invariant 3L Fitting of Implicit Polynomials

Combining implicit polynomials and algebraic invariants for representing and recognizing complicated objects proves to be a powerful technique. However, a basic requirement for using implicit polynomials for affine invariant recognition is to have an affine invariant fitting algorithm. In this paper, we study the problem of affine invariant fitting of an implicit polynomial to data. Received Ja...

IRWIN AND JOAN JACOBS CENTER FOR COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES Recognition of 3D Objects Based on Implicit Polynomials

This work deals with 3D objects description and recognition by implicit polynomials (IPs). We explore the description abilities of existing 3D implicit polynomials fitting algorithms, Gradient-One, Min-Max and Min-Var, and suggest a modification for the Min-Max and Min-Var algorithms, so that they will be rotation invariant. We develop a new set of 3D rotation invariants that are linear combina...

An improved algorithm for algebraic curve and surface fitting

Recent years have seen an increasing interest in algebraic curves and surfaces of high degree as geometric models or shape descriptors for model-based computer vision tasks such as object recognition and position estimation. Although their invariant-theoretic properties them a natural choice for these tasks, fitting algebraic curves and surfaces to data sets is difficult, and fitting algorithms...

Signal detection Using Rational Function Curve Fitting

In this manuscript, we proposed a new scheme in communication signal detection which is respect to the curve shape of received signal and based on the extraction of curve fitting (CF) features. This feature extraction technique is proposed for signal data classification in receiver. The proposed scheme is based on curve fitting and approximation of rational fraction coefficients. For each symbo...
