Diabetes, Ghrelin And Related Peptides: From Pathophysiology To Vascu- lopathy

چکیده
Ghrelin and obestatin are two different peptides originated from the same gene isolated in the stomach. Numerous actions have been described where these two peptides are implicated in metabolism, appetite regulation, glucose levels regulation, and a wide range of systemic effects. In this article, we summarize (1) the cellular receptors implicated in ghrelin and obestatin effects; (2) the role of ghrelin and obestatin in metabolism and appetite regulation; (3) their role in the glucose homeostasis regulation and its implication in diabetes patho-physiology; (5) the effects of ghrelin and obestatin in regulation of normal angiogenesis and (6) their possible role in the regulation of diabetes-induced pathologic angi-

Ghrelin in Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome
Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of related risk factors for cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and liver disease. Obesity, which has become a global public health problem, is one of the major risk factors for development of metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes. Obesity is a complex disease, caused by the interplay between environmental and genetic factors. Ghrelin is one of the circulati...
متن کاملThe Association of Polymorphisms in Leptin/Leptin Receptor Genes and Ghrelin/Ghrelin Receptor Genes With Overweight/Obesity and the Related Metabolic Disturbances: A Review
CONTEXT Leptin and ghrelin are two important appetite and energy balance-regulating peptides. Common polymorphisms in the genes coding these peptides and their related receptors are shown to be associated with body weight, different markers of obesity and metabolic abnormalities. This review article aims to investigate the association of common polymorphisms of these genes with overweight/obesi...
متن کاملExperimental healing of preexisting gastric ulcers induced by hormones controlling food intake ghrelin, orexin-A and nesfatin-1 is impaired under diabetic conditions. A key to understanding the diabetic gastropathy?
Hormonal peptides like ghrelin, orexin A (OXA) or nesfatin-1 not only regulate appetite, which is their basic biological function, but also contribute to mechanisms responsible for maintaining integrity of the gastric mucosa. Previous studies including those from our laboratory have revealed that their gastroprotective effect results from cooperation with other factors responsible for protectio...
متن کاملGhrelin in gastrointestinal diseases and disorders: a possible role in the pathophysiology and clinical implications (review).
Ghrelin is a peptide hormone, which has been isolated from the stomach. It is localized mostly in endocrine cells in the oxyntic mucosa of the stomach. Ghrelin receptors are expressed equally in all parts of the gastrointestinal tract, with a similar level of expression in the mucosal and muscle layers. This peptide hormone has several functions, the most widely known is its growth hormone (GH)...
متن کاملstudy of comparative effects of harmine and ghrelin agonist on insulin and c-peptide secretion
Aim and Background: The ability to secrete insulin from the islets of Langerhans on the one hand and suppress the factors that increase serum glucose concentrations on the other; It is very important in patients with metabolic disorders such as diabetes. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of harmine with ghrelin agonist (as a suppressor of insulin secretion) on insulin secretion a...
