BROADBAND X-RAY SPECTRA OF THE ULTRALUMINOUS X-RAY SOURCE HOLMBERG IX X-1 OBSERVED WITH NuSTAR, XMM-NEWTON AND SUZAKU

چکیده
We present results from the coordinated broadband X-ray observations of the extreme ultraluminous X-ray source Holmberg IX X-1 performed by NuSTAR, XMM-Newton and Suzaku in late 2012. These observations provide the first high-quality spectra of Holmberg IX X-1 above 10 keV to date, extending the X-ray coverage of this remarkable source up to ∼30 keV. Broadband observations were undertaken at two epochs, between which Holmberg IX X-1 exhibited both flux and strong spectral variability, increasing in luminosity from LX = (1.90±0.03)×10 erg s to LX = (3.35±0.03)×10 erg s. Neither epoch exhibits a spectrum consistent with emission from the standard low/hard accretion state seen in Galactic black hole binaries, that would have been expected if Holmberg IX X-1 harbors a truly massive black hole accreting at substantially sub-Eddington accretion rates. The NuSTAR data confirm that the curvature observed previously in the 3–10 keV bandpass does represent a true spectral cutoff. During each epoch, the spectrum appears to be dominated by two optically thick thermal components, likely associated with an accretion disk. The spectrum also shows some evidence for a non-thermal tail at the highest energies, which may further support this scenario. The available data allow for either of the two thermal components to dominate the spectral evolution, although both scenarios require highly non-standard behavior for thermal accretion disk emission. Nustar, Xmm-newton, and Suzaku Observations of the Ultraluminous X-ray Source Holmberg Ii X-1
We present the first broadband 0.3–25.0 keV X-ray observations of the bright ultraluminous X-ray source (ULX) Holmberg II X-1, performed by NuSTAR, XMM-Newton, and Suzaku in 2013 September. The NuSTAR data provide the first observations of Holmberg II X-1 above 10 keV and reveal a very steep high-energy spectrum, similar to other ULXs observed by NuSTAR to date. These observations further demon...
متن کاملObservations of Mcg–5-23-16 with Suzaku, Xmm-newton and Nustar: Disk Tomography and Compton Hump Reverberation
MCG–5-23-16 is one of the first AGN where relativistic reverberation in the iron K line originating in the vicinity of the supermassive black hole was found, based on a short XMM-Newton observation. In this work, we present the results from long X-ray observations using Suzaku, XMM-Newton and NuSTAR designed to map the emission region using X-ray reverberation. A relativistic iron line is detec...
متن کاملDisentangling the Complex Broadband X-ray Spectrum of IRAS13197-1627 with NuSTAR, XMM-Newton and Suzaku
We present results from a coordinated XMM-Newton+NuSTAR observation of the type 1.8 Seyfert galaxy IRAS 13197-1627. This is a highly complex source, with strong contributions from relativistic reflection from the inner accretion disk, neutral absorption and further reprocessing by more distant material, and ionised absorption from an outflow. We undertake a detailed spectral analysis combining ...
متن کاملThe coronal parameters of local Seyfert galaxies
One of the open problems for AGN is the nature of the primary X-ray emission: it is likely due to Comptonization of soft UV photons, but the optical depth and temperature of the emitting corona were largely unknown before the launch of the Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR). It is the first focusing hard X-ray telescope on orbit, 100 times more sensitive in the 10-79 keV band compar...
متن کاملProbing the Accretion Disk and Central Engine Structure of Ngc 4258 with Suzaku and Xmm- Newton Observations
We present an X-ray study of the low-luminosity active galactic nucleus (AGN) in NGC 4258 using data from Suzaku, XMM-Newton, and the Swift/Burst Alert Telescope survey. We find that signatures of X-ray reprocessing by cold gas are very weak in the spectrum of this Seyfert-2 galaxy; a weak, narrow fluorescent Kα emission line of cold iron is robustly detected in both the Suzaku and XMM-Newton s...
