Monotonic Simplification and Recognizing Exchange Reducibility

چکیده
In [BM4] the Markov Theorem Without Stabilization (MTWS) established the existence of a calculus of braid isotopies that can be used to move between closed braid representatives of a given oriented link type without having to increase the braid index by stabilization. Although the calculus is extensive there are three key isotopies that were identified and analyzed—destabilization, exchange moves and elementary braid preserving flypes. One of the critical open problems left in the wake of the MTWS is the recognition problem— determining when a given closed n-braid admits a specified move of the calculus. In this note we give an algorithmic solution to the recognition problem for three isotopies of the MTWS calculus—destabilization, exchange moves and braid preserving flypes. The algorithm is “directed” by a complexity measure that can be monotonic simplified by that application of elementary moves.

Simplified Reducibility Proofs of Church-Rosser for - and -reduction
The simplest proofs of the Church Rosser Property are usually done by the syntactic method of parallel reduction. On the other hand, reducibility is a semantic method which has been used to prove a number of properties in the λ-calculus and is well known to offer on one hand very general proofs which can be applied to a number of instantiations, and on the other hand, to be quite mysterious and...
متن کاملThe Falling Drop Method for Determining Specific
Recognizing the increasing importance attached to water exchange in the body for the study of many clinical and physiological conditions we (1) described in 1924 a new and convenient method of determining specific gravity. Obvious advantages attach to densimetry performed with 1 drop of body fluid, in less than a minute’s time. While these ends were attained by the method as first described it ...

متن کاملRecognizing Top-Monotonic Preference Profiles in Polynomial Time
We provide the first polynomial-time algorithm for recognizing if a profile of (possibly weak) preference orders is top-monotonic. Top-monotonicity is a generalization of the notions of single-peakedness and single-crossingness, defined by Barberà and Moreno. Top-monotonic profiles always have weak Condorcet winners and satisfy a variant of the median voter theorem. Our algorithm proceeds by re...
متن کاملA Note on the Complexity of Breaking Okamoto-Tanaka ID-Based Key Exchange Scheme
The rigorous security of Okamoto-Tanaka identity-based key exchange scheme has been open for a decade. In this paper, we show that (1) breaking the scheme is equivalent to breaking the Diffie-Hellman key exchange scheme over Zn, and (2) impersonation is easier than breaking. The second result is obtained by proving that breaking the RSA public-key cryptosystem reduces to breaking the Diffie-Hel...
