چکیده

We show that a set is m-autoreducible if and only if it is m-mitotic. This solves a long standing open question in a surprising way. As a consequence of this unconditional result and recent work by Glaßer et al., complete sets for all of the following complexity classes are m-mitotic: NP, coNP, ⊕P, PSPACE, and NEXP, as well as all levels of PH, MODPH, and the Boolean hierarchy over NP. In the cases of NP, PSPACE, NEXP, and PH, this at once answers several well-studied open questions. These results tell us that complete sets share a redundancy that was not known before. In particular, every NP-complete set A splits into two NP-complete sets A1 and A2. We disprove the equivalence between autoreducibility and mitoticity for all polynomial-timebounded reducibilities between 3-tt-reducibility and Turing-reducibility: There exists a sparse set in EXP that is polynomial-time 3-tt-autoreducible, but not weakly polynomial-time T-mitotic. In particular, polynomial-time T-autoreducibility does not imply polynomial-time weak T-mitoticity, which solves an open question by Buhrman and Torenvliet.

Randomized Algorithm For 3-Set Splitting Problem and it's Markovian Model

In this paper we restrict every set splitting problem to the special case in which every set has just three elements. This restricted version is also NP-complete. Then, we introduce a general conversion from any set splitting problem to 3-set splitting. Then we introduce a randomize algorithm, and we use Markov chain model for run time complexity analysis of this algorithm. In the last section ...

Splitting Number is NP-complete

We consider two graph invariants that are used as a measure of nonplanarity: the splitting number of a graph and the size of a maximum planar subgraph. The splitting number of a graph G is the smallest integer k 0, such that a planar graph can be obtained from G by k splitting operations. Such operation replaces a vertex v by two nonadjacent vertices v1 and v2, and attaches the neighbors of v e...

R1-ttSN(NP) Distinguishes Robust Many-One and Turing Completeness

Do complexity classes have many-one complete sets if and only if they have Turingcomplete sets? We prove that there is a relativized world in which a relatively natural complexity class—namely a downward closure of NP, R 1-tt(NP)—has Turing-complete sets but has no many-one complete sets. In fact, we show that in the same relativized world this class has 2-truth-table complete sets but lacks 1-...

Strong Reductions and Isomorphism of Complete Sets

We study the structure of the polynomial-time complete sets for NP and PSPACE under strong nondeterministic polynomial-time reductions (SNP-reductions). We show the following results. • If NP contains a p-random language, then all polynomial-time complete sets for PSPACE are SNP-isomorphic. • If NP ∩ co-NP contains a p-random language, then all polynomial-time complete sets for NP are SNP-isomo...

Autoreducibility, Mitoticity, and Immunity

We show the following results regarding complete sets. • NP-complete sets and PSPACE-complete sets are many-one autoreducible. • Complete sets of any level of PH, MODPH, or the Boolean hierarchy over NP are many-one autoreducible. • EXP-complete sets are many-one mitotic. • NEXP-complete sets are weakly many-one mitotic. • PSPACE-complete sets are weakly Turing-mitotic. • If one-way permutation...
