The role of preference axioms and respondent behaviour in statistical models for discrete choice
نویسنده
چکیده
Discrete choice experiments are widely used in relation to health care. A stream of recent literature therefore aims at testing the validity of the underlying preference axioms of completeness and transitivity, and detecting other preference phenomena such as unstability, learning/tiredness e¤ects, ordering e¤ects, dominance, etc. Unfortunately there seems to be some confusion about what is actually being tested, and the link between the statistical tests performed and the relevant underlying model of respondent behaviour has not been explored in this literature. The present paper tries to clarify the notions involved and discuss what can be tested in a general frequency of choice framework and more speci cally in a random utility model.

On Rank-Ordered Nested Multinomial Logit Model and D-Optimal Design for this Model
In contrast to the classical discrete choice experiment, the respondent in a rank-order discrete choice experiment, is asked to rank a number of alternatives instead of the preferred one. In this paper, we study the information matrix of a rank order nested multinomial logit model (RO.NMNL) and introduce local D-optimality criterion, then we obtain Locally D-optimal design for RO.NMNL models in...
متن کاملAn Analysis of Resident and Non- Resident Air Passenger Behaviour of Origin Airport Choice
Increasing number of air travellers in recent years and the emergence of multi-airport cities throughout the world has made the behaviour of travellers regarding the choice of the origin airport even more important. Analysis of this behaviour helps for a better future planning and development of competing airports as an important element of their demand prediction. In this paper, particular emp...
متن کاملDetecting, Non-Transitive, Inconsistent Responses in Discrete Choice Experiments
Surveys focusing on choice behaviour, and in particular, Discrete Choice Experiments (DCEs) are widely used in studies across many disciplines, including transportation, marketing research, health economics, labour economics and environmental studies. Investigation of the 'rationality' of responses in choice experiments has received a fair bit of attention from researchers. Most of this researc...
متن کاملOn Calibration and Application of Logit-Based Stochastic Traffic Assignment Models
There is a growing recognition that discrete choice models are capable of providing a more realistic picture of route choice behavior. In particular, influential factors other than travel time that are found to affect the choice of route trigger the application of random utility models in the route choice literature. This paper focuses on path-based, logit-type stochastic route choice models, i...
متن کاملAddressing Health Workforce Distribution Concerns: A Discrete Choice Experiment to Develop Rural Retention Strategies in Cameroon
Background Nearly every nation in the world faces shortages of health workers in remote areas. Cameroon is no exception to this. The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) is currently considering several rural retention strategies to motivate qualified health personnel to practice in remote rural areas. Methods To better calibrate these mechanisms and to develop evidence-based retention strategies...
