چکیده

The all-sky monitor on the Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer has been monitoring the sky in the 1.5–12 keV band since late February. The instrument consists of three coded-aperture cameras that can be rotated to view different regions by a motorized drive assembly. Intensities of 1100 known sources are obtained via least-squares fits of shadow patterns to the data and compiled to form X-ray light curves. Six orbital periodicities and four long-term periodicities, all previously known, have been detected in these light curves. Searches for additional sources have also been conducted. X-ray light curves for the Crab Nebula, Cyg X-1, 4U 1705244, GRO J1655240, and SMC X-1 are reported. They illustrate the quality of the results and the range of observed phenomena. Subject headings: instrumentation: detectors —X-rays: general —X-rays: stars

X-ray Transients Monitored by the All- Sky Monitor on Rxte: a Tabulation

We present a tabulation of 46 transient x-ray sources monitored with the All-Sky Monitor (ASM) on the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE). They fall into four broad categories: short (∼ 1 d), intermediate, and long (> 500 d) duration of outbursts, and long period binary systems that flare up at periastron (e.g., Be systems). The mixture of outburst/quiescent cycles and low-level persistent emiss...

The Nonlinear Long - term X - ray Variability of Mrk 421

In this work, I present the results of a thorough nonlinear time series analysis study concerning the long-term variability behaviour of Mrk 421. I use all the archival data obtained by the proportional counter array (PCA) and the all-sky monitor (ASM) aboard the Rossi X-ray timing explorer (RXTE), since 1996. Linearity and stationarity tests reveal that the long-term timing properties of the s...

Outbursts, State Transitions, and Periodicities Observed with the RXTE All-Sky Monitor

Results from the All-Sky Monitor (ASM) on the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer are reviewed. A number of recurrent transient sources have been detected, while only a few previously unreported sources have been discovered. The ASM light curves show a wide variety of phenomena in general, and, in particular, those of transient sources show a wide range of properties. Examples are used to illustrate th...

ar X iv : a st ro - p h / 98 05 07 7 v 1 6 M ay 1 99 8 Long - Term X - ray Variability in GX 354 – 0

We report for the first time the detection of long-term X-ray variability in the bright bulge source GX 354–0 (=4U 1728–34) observed with the All Sky Monitor (ASM) on board the Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer (RXTE). The 2-year RXTE ASM database reveals significant power at ∼ 72 days. Similar behaviour was seen in the 6-year Ariel 5 ASM database, but at a period of ∼ 63 days. The timescales and lig...

We present the results of observations of XTE J0421+560 X-ray transient with Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer in the beginning of April 1998. Lightcurve, obtained by ASM all-sky monitor, shows unusually fast decrease in the object's luminosity. Spectra from series of observations by PCA and HEXTE experiments were studied in detail. Two emission line regions with energies around 6.5 keV and around 8 ...
