The separation of protein-bound iodine and nonprotein iodine by serum coagulation.

چکیده
HE SEPARATION of protein from nonprotein material, a usual procedure in the analysis of biological specimens, has been effected in a ilumber of ways. Marymont and London (1) have reported a new coagulalation technic which is perhaps advantageous in certain instances, as well as several applications of the technic (2-6). it is well known that the precipitation of proteins by any of the conventional protein precipitants, yields a nonprotein fraction containing excess protein precipitant in solution. If one is interested in studying various naturally occurring constituents in the aqueous nonprotein fraction, the removal of the excess protein precipitant can be difficult and in some cases almost impossible. However, removal may be accomplished by simply coagulating the proteins and extracting the coagulum with water. We have investigated the washed coagulum and also the water-soluble fraction for iodine.

Study on the effect of high calcium intake on serum protein bound iodine and urinary excretion of iodine
Iodine deficiency remains a major health problem in the world, including some parts of Iran. It has been recognized that there is usually a close and inverse relationship between iodine in the soil and water and presence of endemic goiter. Calcium has been suggested as one of goitrogens, though the definite role, extent and mechanism particularly in human have not been studied. Serum protein-...

The most commonly-used test for determining the serum concentration of thyroid hormones is the protein-bound iodine analysis (PBI) which measures the serum's entire organic and some inorganic iodide concentration. Since it is desired to measure only that portion of the serum iodine which is in the thyroxine molecule, this test may be misleading. The method of PBI determination rou tinely used i...

A modification is presented of the chloric acid method for the rapid determination of serum protein-bound iodine and total serum iodine requiring less than 0.5 ml. serum for duplicate determinations. The time required for the entire procedure is less than two hours. By adjusting the amounts of reagents used and by varying the time of digestion, the need for constant and continuous supervision i...
متن کاملConcentration of serum total iodine and thyroid hormones in Holstein cows in central Iran
The aim of this study was to evaluate total iodine, triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) status in the blood serum of Holstein cows on six farms in central Iran. Total iodine, T3 and T4 concentrations were measured in 90 blood serum samples (15 per farm). Mean concentrations of total iodine (38.80 ± 1.52 µg/l) and T3 (1.57 ± 0.10 nmol/l) were lower but the mean concentration of T4 (45.60 ± ...

Abstract Iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) is a worldwide health problem. Many parts of the Islamic Republic of Iran had been known as areas of endemic goiter. IDD was accepted as a priority health problem in the country, and a national IDD council was formed in 1989, under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education. One of the main strategies of National Council for IDD ...
