Collaborative learning in online courses: Exploring students’ perceptions

Virtual collaborative activities have the potential to keep students engaged, create a sense of community in online courses and allow them to experience and practice virtual teamwork skills. This study presents an attempt to explore students’ perceptions of online collaborative learning involving both process and product oriented activities. The online collaborative activities were used in the context of a Management Information Systems course. Results showed that perceived structure of the collaborating activity and peer interaction that takes place during the activity are positively related to perceived learning.
