M3POC: A Multimedia Multicast Transport Protocol for Cooperative Applications
نویسندگان
چکیده
Recent experiments in collaborative working have shown some technical limitations that delay the massive deployment of such applications. These limitations concern the support of a variable multimedia quality of service (QoS) that is often insufficient, multicast services badly adapted to the group requirements, and over all, the cooperative features of persons involved in a group work session that are not taken into account. This paper then proposes an architecture resolving these problems, that relies on a new transport protocol : M3POC. The mechanisms and services provided by this transport are presented and confronted to the exposed problematics, and, as an example, it is shown how a cooperative videoconference application Confort can benefit from such transport service.

Multimedia transport protocol and multicast communication
The emerging of high speed networks provides the infrastructure for handling a wide set of new applications, covering distributed multimedia cooperative features. In this framework, multipeer communication is a major service/protocol issue because most of these applications exhibit the need for such a functionality. Besides many functions and mechanisms, the semantics of transport layer multica...

The popularity of large-scale distributed applications, such as videoconferencing, multimedia dissemination, electronic stock exchange and distributed cooperative work, has grown with the availability of high-speed networks and the expansion of the Internet. The key property of this type of applications is the need to distribute data among multiple participants together with an application-spec...

This paper proposes the modeling and the performance analysis of a high-level control protocol – COCOP, which enables cooperative groups of clients to control a shared server delivering time-dependant data services. Several synchronous multimedia systems such as media on-demand, web casting, and networks of real/virtual sensors, can beneficially exploit COCOP to furnish cooperative control sess...

متن کاملGCAP: A New Multimedia Multicast Architecture for QoS
Despite its obvious suitability for distributed multimedia applications, multicasting has not yet found widespread application. Having analyzed shortcomings of today's approaches, we devise in the GCAP project a new endto-end transport architecture for multimedia multicasting that supports partial order and partial reliability. In this paper, we argue that, at the network layer, single-source m...
