چکیده

Given a time slotted list of resource capacities, we address the problem of scheduling resource allocation considering that a change in allocation results in the changeover penalty of one timeslot. The goal is to maximize the overall allocation of resources. We prove that no 1lookahead algorithm can be better than 8/5-competitive. We provide improved analysis of Wait Dominate Hold (WDH) algorithm that was previously known to be 4-competitive. We prove that WDH is 8/3-competitive. We also consider k-lookahead algorithms, and prove lower bound of (k + 2)/(k + 1) on their competitiveness and give an online algorithm that is 2-competitive.

A hybrid GRASP algorithm for minimizing total weighted resource tardiness penalty costs in scheduling of project networks

In this paper, we consider scheduling of project networks under minimization of total weighted resource tardiness penalty costs. In this problem, we assume constrained resources are renewable and limited to very costly machines and tools which are also used in other projects and are not accessible in all periods of time of a project. In other words, there is a dictated ready date as well as a d...

The preemptive resource-constrained project scheduling problem subject to due dates and preemption penalties: An integer programming approach

Extensive research has been devoted to resource constrained project scheduling problem. However, little attention has been paid to problems where a certain time penalty must be incurred if activity preemption is allowed. In this paper, we consider the project scheduling problem of minimizing the total cost subject to resource constraints, earliness-tardiness penalties and preemption penalties, ...

Dynamic Resource Allocation for an IP-based Communications Network Supporting Space Exploration

We address issues related to efficiency, fairness, end-to-end delay minimization and Quality-of-Service (QoS) framework in order to enable a flexible access and dynamic mission operation capability in the next generation NASA space-to-ground IP-based communication infrastructure. In our scenario, the downlink channel of the NASA Tracking and Data Relay Satellite System is shared by a number of ...

Improved Algorithms for Resource Allocation under Varying Capacity

We consider the problem of scheduling a set of jobs on a system that offers certain resource, wherein the amount of resource offered varies over time. For each job, the input specifies a set of possible scheduling instances, where each instance is given by starting time, ending time, profit and resource requirement. A feasible solution selects a subset of job instances such that at any timeslot...

Integrated modeling and solving the resource allocation problem and task scheduling in the cloud computing environment

Cloud computing is considered to be a new service provider technology for users and businesses. However, the cloud environment is facing a number of challenges. Resource allocation in a way that is optimum for users and cloud providers is difficult because of lack of data sharing between them. On the other hand, job scheduling is a basic issue and at the same time a big challenge in reaching hi...
