Hanabi is NP-complete, Even for Cheaters who Look at Their Cards

چکیده
This paper studies a cooperative card game called Hanabi from an algorithmic combinatorial game theory viewpoint. The aim of the game is to play cards from 1 to n in increasing order (this has to be done independently in c different colors). Cards are drawn from a deck one by one. Drawn cards are either immediately played, discarded or stored for future use (overall each player can store up to h cards). We introduce a simplified mathematical model of a single-player version of the game, and show several complexity results: the game is intractable in a general setting, but becomes tractable (and even linear) in some interesting restricted cases (i.e., for small values of h and c). 1998 ACM Subject Classification F.2.2, G.2, F.1.2.

You can judge a book by its cover Evidence that cheaters may look different from cooperators
Cosmides and Tooby argue that humans possess a domain-specific cheater detection module, which allows them to keep track of who has honored and who has violated social contracts. Consistent with this logic, others demonstrate that humans better recognize faces of known cheaters than those of known cooperators. We show, in Experiments 1–3, that humans better recognize faces of cheaters than thos...
متن کاملSolving Hanabi: Estimating Hands by Opponent's Actions in Cooperative Game with Incomplete Information
A unique behavior of humans is modifying one’s unobservable behavior based on the reaction of others for cooperation. We used a card game called Hanabi as an evaluation task of imitating human reflective intelligence with artificial intelligence. Hanabi is a cooperative card game with incomplete information. A player cooperates with an opponent in building several card sets constructed with the...
متن کاملThe Complexity of Playing Durak
Durak is a Russian card game in which players try to get rid of all their cards via a particular attack/defense mechanism. The last player standing with cards loses. We show that, even restricted to the perfect information two-player game, finding optimal moves is a hard problem. More precisely, we prove that, given a generalized durak position, it is PSPACE-complete to decide if a player has a...
متن کاملKaboozle Is NP-complete, Even in a Strip
Kaboozle is a puzzle consisting of several square cards, each annotated with colored paths and dots drawn on both sides and holes drilled. The goal is to join two colored dots with paths of the same color (and fill all holes) by stacking the cards suitably. The freedoms here are to reflect, rotate, and order the cards arbitrarily, so it is not surprising that the problem is NP-complete (as we s...
متن کاملA New NP-Complete Problem and Public-Key Identification
The appearance of the theory of zero-knowledge, presented by Goldwasser, Micali and Rackoff in 1985, opened a way to secure identification schemes. The first application was the famous Fiat-Shamir scheme based on the problem of modular square roots extraction. In the following years, many other schemes have been proposed, some Fiat-Shamir extensions but also new discrete logarithm based schemes...
