Chlamydia psittaci pneumonia with septic shock and hypoxic respiratory failure

چکیده
Psittacosis is a zoonotic infectious disease causing communityacquired pneumonia. Septic shock and respiratory failure can develop. The symptoms, diagnosis, transmission and treatment of psittacosis are discussed. In the described cases, especially polymerase chain reaction has shown to be a promising tool in diagnosing the disease. Physicians awareness might be accelerated to ensure rapid treatment of the disease before it progresses to septic shock and respiratory failure.

Chlamydia species as a cause of community-acquired pneumonia in Canada.
Chlamydia pneumoniae has been implicated as a cause of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in several studies. However, there has been no comprehensive study of the role of Chlamydia species (C. pneumoniae, C. psittaci (avian and feline strains) and C. pecorum) as a cause of CAP. The aim of the present study was to determine the role of C. pneumoniae, C. psittaci and C. pecorum as causes of CAP....

Taxonomy The order chlamydiales has one family, chlamydiaceae, and one genus, chlamydia. Currently four species are recognized, Chlamydia trachomatis, Chlamydia pneumoniae, Chlamydia psittaci , and Chlamydia pecorum. To date, 19 different Chlamydia trachomatis serovars (41) and several Chlamydia psittaci serovars are known (6 avian (65), 9 mammalian (29)), but only one Chlamydia pneumoniae (40,...
متن کاملMulti Locus Sequence Typing of Chlamydia Reveals an Association between Chlamydia psittaci Genotypes and Host Species
Chlamydia comprises a group of obligate intracellular bacterial parasites responsible for a variety of diseases in humans and animals, including several zoonoses. Chlamydia trachomatis causes diseases such as trachoma, urogenital infection and lymphogranuloma venereum with severe morbidity. Chlamydia pneumoniae is a common cause of community-acquired respiratory tract infections. Chlamydia psit...
متن کاملWhole-Genome Sequences of Chlamydia psittaci Strain HJ, Isolated from Meat Pigeons with Severe Respiratory Distress and High Mortality
The obligate intracellular Gram-negative bacterium Chlamydia psittaci causes systemic disease in psittacine birds, domestic poultry, and wild fowl. Importantly, C. psittaci may cause pneumonia, encephalitis, endocarditis, and even death in humans. The potential of pigeons as a source of human psittacosis is supported worldwide by relatively high seroconversion rates in the birds. This study rep...
متن کاملA Case of Influenza A (H3N2) Complicated by Community-Acquired Pneumonia and Death in a Young Healthy Adult during the 2013–2014 Season
With multiple available vaccines and antivirals, seasonal influenza A is typically a self-limited acutely debilitating illness in young healthy adults. Here, we illustrate unexpected morbidity and mortality in a relatively young and healthy patient seen at a large tertiary care academic medical center for seasonal influenza A (H3N2) complicated by community-acquired pneumonia, hypoxic respirato...
