چکیده

Shape-selected synthesis of a large number of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoand microstructures was achieved by the seed-mediated growth of oligoaniline-coated gold nanoparticle precursors. Distinctive ZnO structures such as nanoplates, nanospheres, microstars, microflowers, microthorns and micromultipods were synthesized by this method. Slightly different shapes were obtained in the absence of the seed structures. The structure and morphology of the nanostructures were studied by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively. Raman spectroscopy, Fouriertransform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were utilized for the characterization of the nanostructures. A growth mechanism for these nanostructures was proposed based on these results. The concentrations of the reacting species were the main parameter causing the changes in the morphologies. The variation in morphologies of these structures is believed to be due to the ability of the seed solution as well as polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) to selectively suppress/depress the growth of certain planes, allowing growth to occur only in certain specific directions. Changes in the amount of growth nuclei with varying sodium hydroxide (NaOH) concentration is also seen to affect the morphology of these structures. & 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Habit-modifying additives and their morphological consequences on photoluminescence and glucose sensing properties of ZnO nanostructures, grown via aqueous chemical synthesis

Generally, the anisotropic shape of inorganic nano-crystal can be influenced by one or more of different parameters i.e. kinetic energy barrier, temperature, time, and the nature of the capping molecules. Here, different surfactants acting as capping molecules were used to assist the aqueous chemical growth of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanostructures on Au coated glass substrates. The morphology, crysta...

Controlled synthesis of linear and branched Au@ZnO hybrid nanocrystals and their photocatalytic properties.

Colloidal Au@ZnO hybrid nanocrystals with linear and branched shape were synthesized. The number of ZnO domains on the Au seeds can be controlled by the solvent mixture. Imidazole-functionalized Au@ZnO hybrid nanocrystals were soluble in water and exhibited a greatly enhanced photocatalytic activity compared to ZnO nanocrystals. The pristine heterodimeric NPs were characterized using transmissi...
