A case study of system synthesis with non-synthesizable components using extended VHDL

چکیده
Extensions to VHDL have been deened in order to produce a compiler that allows for system design with synthesizable and non-synthesizable multi-chip subsystems. The compiler has been completed and this paper presents a case study that has been made to evaluate the merits and limitations of this approach. Finally, a brief discussion is made of the error generation capability that results from the use of formal methods in the deenition of the VHDL language extensions.

Extended VHDL for the rapid prototyping of systems with synthesizable and nonsynthesizable subsystems
System design is typically done in VHDL to facilitate top-down design and to enable the mapping of a design to many implementations. Reusabil-ity of subsystems to date has largely been performed with libraries of synthesizable VHDL subsystems. This paper presents recommended extensions to VHDL to allow the VHDL designer to interact with nonsynthesizable subsystems while still designing in VHDL....
متن کاملHigh-Performance Adder Circuit Generators in Parameterized Structural VHDL
In ASIC design, arithmetic components are usually selected from tooland technology-dependent libraries providing very limited flexibility and choice of circuit structures. With the possibility of parameterized structural circuit descriptions at the gate-level in VHDL, versatile circuit generators can be implemented which are highly independent of tool platforms and design technologies. This ena...
متن کاملA Synthesizable Low Power VHDL Model of the Exact Solution of Three Dimensional Hyperbolic Positioning System
This paper presents a synthesizable low power VHDL model of a three-dimensional hyperbolic positioning system algorithm. The algorithm derives the equations needed to obtain an exact solution for the three dimensional location of a mobile given the locations of four fixed stations (like a GPS satellite or a base station in a cell) and the signal time of arrival (TOA) from the mobile to each sta...
متن کاملuRT51: AN EMBEDDED REAL-TIME PROCESSOR IMPLEMENTED ON FPGA DEVICES
−− In this paper we describe and evaluate the main features of the uRT51 processor. The uRT51 processor was designed for embedded realtime control applications. It is a processor architecture that incorporates the specific functions of a real-time system in hardware. It was described using synthesizable VHDL and it was implemented on FPGA devices. We describe how the uRT51 processor supports ti...
متن کاملDSP core verification using automatic test case generation
The veriication methodology for a TMS320C25 compatible embedded DSP core is described. The DSP core has been implemented in synthesizable VHDL and has been cosimulated with the original DSP to verify correct behavior. Automatic test case generation together with hand-crafted code has been used as a means of providing stimuli to achieve increased RTL-simulation coverage. The cosim-ulation enviro...
