چکیده
Mucoceles are cystic formations lined with respiratory epithelium that contain a mucoid or mucopurulent fluid. Although benign, mucoceles are locally expansive, due to continuous production and accumulation of mucus, resulting in erosion and underlying bone remodeling. This may affect the orbit, skull base, or soft tissue of the face. Frontal, ethmoidal, and fronto-ethmoidal sinuses are the most common locations, while the, maxillary and sphenoidal sinuses are less frequently affected. Maxillary sinus mucoceles are rare, accounting for less than 10% of all mucoceles in the USA and Europe.1 Orbital symptoms are relatively common in patients with mucocele, due to the expansion of the lesion into the orbit.1 These symptoms are usually caused by ethmoidal, sphenoidal, and frontal mucoceles. Ophthalmologic impact is unusual from maxillary mucoceles. As to orbital symptoms,

Ectopic Molar with Maxillary Sinus Drainage Obstruction and Oroantral Fistula
Introduction: Ectopic tooth eruption may result owing to one of 3 processes: developmentalDisturbance, iatrogenic activity, or pathologic process, such as a tumor or a cyst. In rare cases, occlusion of the sinus ostia may predispose a patient to develop a maxillary sinus mucocele. When the maxillary sinus is invaded, symptoms usually occur late in the process. Case report: A 17 years old boy...
متن کاملReconstruction of Large Orbital Floor Defect Caused by Maxillary Sinus Mucocele
Maxillary sinus mucocele can occur due to many medical factors such as chronic infection, allergic sinonasal disease, trauma, and previous surgery. However, it occurs mainly after Caldwell-Luc operation, usually more than 10 years after surgery. There are a few cases of maxillary sinus mucocele with ocular symptoms. Also, a case causing ocular symptoms because of invasion to the orbital floor i...
متن کاملMaxillary Sinus Mucopyocele in a Fifty-eight-year-old man: A Possible Late Complication of Irradiation to Head and Neck
INTRODUCTION A mucocele is an epithelial-lined, mucus-containing sac that can fill the sinus completely and expand gradually. Mucopyocele is an infected mucocele. CASE REPORT We presented a case of left maxillary mucopyocele in a 58-year-old man that developed after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Computed tomography scan showed opacification of the left maxillary sinus expanding t...

متن کاملMucopyocele of the maxillary sinus
Mucoceles are defined as chronic, cystic lesions in the paranasal sinuses. When the mucocele content becomes infected, the lesion is defined as mucopyocele. Most mucoceles are located in the frontal and anterior ethmoid sinuses and normally they involve the frontal-ethmoid complex, expanding to the superior-medial region of the orbit, leading to ocular disorders; maxillary sinus presentation is...
