Instantaneous oscillatory direction and phase for multivariate timeseries

چکیده
This text describes a generalization of the analytic signal (Gabor, 1946) approach for the definition of instantaneous amplitude and phase to the case of multivariate signals. It was originally written as an appendix for another paper, where the determination of the locally dominant oscillatory direction (the instantaneous amplitude) described here is used as a preprocessing step for another kind of data analysis. The text is reproduced in a ‘standalone’ form because the procedure might prove useful in other contexts too, especially for the purpose of phase synchronization analysis (Rosenblum et al., 1996) between two (or more) multivariate sets of time series (Pascual-Marqui, 2007). The local oscillatory behavior of a real-valued univariate signal x(t) is commonly characterized using the corresponding complex-valued analytic signal z(t). It is obtained by combining x(t) with an imaginary part, z(t) = x(t) + i y(t), which is defined as the Hilbert transform of x, y(t) = H x(t) = 1 π P.V. ∫

Clustering of periodic multichannel timeseries data with application to plasma fluctuations
A periodic datamining algorithm has been developed and used to extract distinct plasma fluctuations in multichannel oscillatory timeseries data. The technique uses the Expectation Maximisation algorithm to solve for the maximum likelihood estimates and cluster assignments of a mixture of multivariate independent von Mises distributions (EM-VMM). The performance of the algorithm shows significan...
متن کاملInstantaneous sediment transport model for asymmetric oscillatory sheet flow
On the basis of advanced concentration and velocity profiles above a mobile seabed, an instantaneous analytical model is derived for sediment transport in asymmetric oscillatory flow. The applied concentration profile is obtained from the classical exponential law based on mass conservation, and asymmetric velocity profile is developed following the turbulent boundary layer theory and the asymm...
متن کاملInstantaneous voltage as an alternative to power- and phase-based interpretation of oscillatory brain activity
For decades, oscillatory brain activity has been characterized primarily by measurements of power and phase. While many studies have linked those measurements to cortical excitability, their relationship to each other and to the physiological underpinnings of excitability is unclear. The recently proposed Function-through-Biased-Oscillations (FBO) hypothesis (Schalk, 2015) addressed these issue...
متن کاملInvestigation of the performance and accuracy of multivariate timeseries models in predicting EC and TDS values of the rivers of Urmia Lake Basin
Considering the complexity of hydrological processes, it seems that multivariate methods may enhance the accuracy of time series models and the results obtained from them by taking more influential factors into account. Indeed, the results of multivariate models can improve the results of description, modeling, and prediction of different parameters by involving other influential factors. In th...
متن کاملOscillatory MHD Flow of Blood through an Artery with Mild Stenosis (RESEARCH NOTE)
The purpose of this work is to study the effect of oscillatory MHD blood flow in stenosed artery. The analytical and numerical results are obtained for oscillatory MHD blood flow, which is assumed to be a Newtonian fluid. It was also assumed that the surface roughness is of cosine shaped and the maximum height of roughness is negligible, compared with the radius of un-constricted tube. The flui...
