The Second Eigenvalue of Random Walks On Symmetric Random Intersection Graphs

چکیده
In this paper we examine spectral properties of random intersection graphs when the number of vertices is equal to the number of labels. We call this class symmetric random intersection graphs. We examine symmetric random intersection graphs when the probability that a vertex selects a label is close to the connectivity threshold τc. In particular, we examine the size of the second eigenvalue of the transition matrix corresponding to the Markov Chain that describes a random walk on an instance of the symmetric random intersection graph Gn,n,p. We show that with high probability the second eigenvalue is upper bounded by some constant ζ < 1.

Expander Properties and the Cover Time of Random Intersection Graphs
We investigate important combinatorial and algorithmic properties of Gn,m,p random intersection graphs. In particular, we prove that with high probability (a) random intersection graphs are expanders, (b) random walks on such graphs are “rapidly mixing” (in particular they mix in logarithmic time) and (c) the cover time of random walks on such graphs is optimal (i.e. it is Θ(n log n)). All resu...
متن کاملThe Second Eigenvalue and Random Walks in Random Regular Graphs with Increasing Girth
The goal of this thesis is to upper bound the expected value of the second largest eigenvalue in magnitude of random regular graphs with a given minimum girth. Having a small upper bound implies such random graphs are likely to be expanders and thus have several combinatorial properties useful in various fields of computer science. The best possible upper bound asymptotically on the second eige...
متن کاملSpherically symmetric random walks. II. Dimensionally dependent critical behavior.
A recently developed model of random walks on a D-dimensional hyperspherical lattice, where D is not restricted to integer values, is extended to include the possibility of creating and annihilating random walkers. Steady-state distributions of random walkers are obtained for all dimensions D.0 by solving a discrete eigenvalue problem. These distributions exhibit dimensionally dependent critica...
متن کاملHarmonic analysis of finite lamplighter random walks
Recently, several papers have been devoted to the analysis of lamplighter random walks, in particular when the underlying graph is the infinite path Z. In the present paper, we develop a spectral analysis for lamplighter random walks on finite graphs. In the general case, we use the C2-symmetry to reduce the spectral computations to a series of eigenvalue problems on the underlying graph. In th...
متن کاملOn the Second Eigenvalue and Random Walks in Random d-Regular Graphs
The main goal of this paper is to estimate the magnitude of the second largest eigenvalue in absolute value, λ2, of (the adjacency matrix of) a random d-regular graph, G. In order to do so, we study the probability that a random walk on a random graph returns to its originating vertex at the k-th step, for various values of k. Our main theorem about eigenvalues is that E {|λ2(G)|} ≤ ( 2 √ 2d− 1...
