چکیده

Valuable as they are, isotherms may display features that Pressure–area isotherms of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine are difficult to interpret, or may even be featureless under (DPPC) exhibit a two-phase region wherein domains of a liquidconditions where interesting things are happening. For examcondensed (LC) phase are dispersed in the less ordered liquidple, the nonhorizontal nature of the plateau exhibited in the expanded (LE) phase. Fluorescence microscopy has been used isotherms of many lipid monolayers (corresponding to the over the past years to visualize the shapes displayed by DPPC liquid-expanded (LE)/liquid-condensed (LC) phase transidomains throughout the coexistence region; characteristic domain tion) has remained cause for debate for over 25 years. Thus shapes include those resembling dimpled beans and S-like figures. additional techniques are often called upon to resolve or In this paper we show that the types and distributions of domain further probe the state of monolayer films. One technique shapes formed throughout the coexistence region depend sensi-

Interaction of pulmonary surfactant protein A with dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine and cholesterol at the air/water interface.

Interaction of pulmonary surfactant protein A (SP-A) with pure and binary mixed dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) and cholesterol (3.5 wt%) at the air/saline, 1.5 mM CaCl2 interface was investigated using a rhomboid surface balance at 37 degrees C. Surface tension-area isotherms were measured to access the surface active properties of the monolayers. The organization of DPPC and cholesterol...

Interfacial properties in Langmuir monolayers and LB films of DPPC with partially fluorinated alcohol (F8H7OH).

Two-component interactions between (perfluorooctyl) heptanol (F8H7OH) and dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC), which is a major component of pulmonary surfactants in mammals, were systematically elucidated using Langmuir monolayers and Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of the compounds. The interactions such as the miscibility of the compounds and their phase behavior were examined from thermodyna...

Miscibility behavior of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine with a single-chain partially fluorinated amphiphile in Langmuir monolayers.

Surface pressure-area, surface potential-area, and dipole moment-area isotherms were obtained for monolayers made from a partially fluorinated surfactant, (perfluorooctyl)undecyldimorpholinophosphate (F8H11DMP), dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC), and their combinations. Monolayers, spread on a 0.15 M NaCl subphase, were investigated at the air/water interface by the Wilhelmy method, ionizin...

Surface properties of polyene glycol phospholipid monolayers.

We studied the surface properties of monolayers composed of polyunsaturated conjugated ethylene glycol phospholipids (carotenoid lipids), compared the data with monolayers of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) to which carotenoids were added and evaluated the impact of the unsaturated glycol lipids on monolayers with the glycerolipid DPPC. The carotenoid based glycol lipids formed monolayers...

Properties of two-component Langmuir monolayer of single chain perfluorinated carboxylic acids with dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC).

The surface pressure (pi)- and the surface potential (DeltaV)-area (A) isotherms were obtained for two-component monolayers of four different perfluorocarboxylic acids (FCns; perfluorododecanoic acid: FC12, perfluorotetradecanoic acid: FC14, perfluorohexadecanoic acid: FC16, perfluorooctadecanoic acid: FC18) with dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) on substrate solution of 0.15 M NaCl (pH 2.0...
