چکیده

A traffic jam on a highway is a very familiar phenomenon. From the physical viewpoint, the system of vehicular flow is a non-equilibrium system of interacting particles (vehicles). The collective effect of the many-particle system induces the instability of a free flow state caused by the enhancement of fluctuations, and the transition to a jamming state occurs spontaneously if the average vehicle density exceeds a certain critical value. Thus, a bottleneck is only a trigger and not the essential origin of a traffic jam. In this paper, we present the first experimental evidence that the emergence of a traffic jam is a collective phenomenon like ‘dynamical’ phase transitions and pattern formation 10 Author to whom any correspondence should be addressed. Microscopic features of moving traffic jams.

Empirical and numerical microscopic features of moving traffic jams are presented. Based on a single vehicle data analysis, it is found that within wide moving jams, i.e., between the upstream and downstream jam fronts there is a complex microscopic spatiotemporal structure. This jam structure consists of alternations of regions in which traffic flow is interrupted and flow states of low speeds...

Glycaemic Index and Load of Dietetic Sour Cherry Jam Prepared with Date Syrup in Healthy Persons

Background & Aims: Date syrup is a natural sweetener rich in antioxidants. In addition, fructose is the predominant sugar in date syrup, which elevates blood glucose at a slower pace than the other types of sugar. The objective of this study was to evaluate the glycemic response of healthy persons to dietetic sour cherry jam prepared with date syrup. Methods: In this clinical trial, the glycemi...

Exciting traffic jams: nonlinear phenomena behind traffic jam formation on highways.

A nonlinear car-following model is studied with driver reaction time delay by using state-of-the-art numerical continuations techniques. These allow us to unveil the detailed microscopic dynamics as well as to extract macroscopic properties of traffic flow. Parameter domains are determined where the uniform flow equilibrium is stable but sufficiently large excitations may trigger traffic jams. ...
