Metamodel - independent schema & data integration : Towards joining syntax and semantics in generic model management . ?

چکیده
The paper presents a mathematical framework, in which the main concepts of schema and data integration can be specified both semantically and syntactically in an abstract datamodel independent way. We first define what are schema matching and integration semantically, in terms of sets of instances and mappings between them. We also define schema matching and integration syntactically, and introduce a procedure (the how) for computing the integration of matched schemas according to the syntactical definition in fairly abstract terms. The main theorem of the paper states that the result of syntactical integration satisfies the semantic definition and, hence, does produce what we really need. Viewed in a broader perspective, the framework developed in the paper integrates the syntactical and semantical sides of model management and, particularly, reveals a remarkable duality between them. The results of the paper can then be seen as an (important yet) particular case of this general duality theory. ? Transformation of Models in(to) a Generic Metamodel
Model Management aims at developing new technologies and mechanisms to support the integration, evolution and matching of models. Such tasks are to be performed by means of a set of operators which work on models and their elements. Furthermore, model management performs these operations generically, that is, without being restricted to a particular metamodel (e.g. the relational or XML Schema ...
متن کاملDomain-Specific Metamodels for Heterogeneous Information Systems
There is considerable interest in developing distributed information systems on top of legacy systems. Over the last two decades, many issues and solutions have been brought forward pertaining to issues of integration, e.g., schema integration, schema mapping. We have developed a schema mapping framework that features domain-specific metamodels, metamodel-driven schema translation, and semiauto...
متن کاملGeneric Schema Mappings
Schema mappings come in different flavors: simple correspondences are produced by schema matchers, intensional mappings are used for schema integration. However, the execution of mappings requires a formalization based on the extensional semantics of models. This problem is aggravated if multiple metamodels are involved. In this paper we present extensional mappings, that are based on second or...
متن کاملA platform for model-independent solutions to model management problems
Model management is a metadata-based approach to database problems aimed at supporting the productivity of developers by providing schema manipulation operators. Here we propose MISM (Model Independent Schema Management), a platform for model management offering a set of operators to manipulate schemas, in a manner that is both model-independent (in the sense that operators are generic and appl...
متن کاملResults of GeRoMeSuite for OAEI 2008
GeRoMeSuite is a generic model management system which provides several functions for managing complex data models, such as schema integration, definition and execution of schema mappings, model transformation, and matching. The system uses the generic metamodel GeRoMe for representing models, and because of this, it is able to deal with models in various modeling languages such as XML Schema, ...
