چکیده

To fully exploit the performance of optics in parallel processor interconnection networks, the connections must be entirely optical. This requires the use of circuit switching. Techniques such a s time division multiplexing TDM can be used to provide a large number of circuits without the need for program directed control operations. We describe two protocols for dynamically establishing circuits in an in-terconnection network. We show how TDM can be used to multiplex communication for data and control purposes together in a single optical network. We e xplore the ability of the protocols and TDM to exploit locality in the communication pattern to improve performance.

A Class of Highly Scalable Optical Crossbar-Connected Interconnection Networks (SOCNs) for Parallel Computing Systems

ÐA class of highly scalable interconnect topologies called the Scalable Optical Crossbar-Connected Interconnection Networks (SOCNs) is proposed. This proposed class of networks combines the use of tunable Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers (VCSEL's), Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) and a scalable, hierarchical network architecture to implement large-scale optical crossbar based netw...

Efficient Distributed Control Routing and Wavelength Assignment Mechanism for a Scalable Hierarchical Single-hop WDM all-Optical Interconnection Network

In this paper we propose an efficient distributed routing and wavelength allocation method for a Single-hop WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) all-Optical Interconnection Network for Scalable Multiprocessor systems. By wavelength allocation, we mean the assignment of unique wavelength(s) to the access nodes. The WDM techniques enable extraction of a larger amount of usable bandwidth. Routin...
