چکیده

Recent technical advances in electromagnetic (EM) tracking have facilitated the use of EM sensors in surgical interventions. Due to the susceptibility to distortions of the EM field when placed in close proximity to metallic objects, they require calibration in situ to maintain an acceptable degree of accuracy. In this paper, a freehand method is presented for calibrating electromagnetic position sensors by mapping the coordinate measurements to those from optical trackers. Unlike previous techniques, the proposed method allows for free movement of the calibration object, permitting C continuity and interdependence between positional and angular corrections. The proposed method involves calculation of a mapping from {IR, SO(3)} to {IR, SO(3)} with radial basis function interpolation based on a modified distance metric. The system provides efficient distortion correction of the EM field, and is applicable to clinical situations where a rapid calibration of EM tracking is required.

A novel research platform for electromagnetic navigated bronchoscopy using cone beam CT imaging and an animal model.

Electromagnetic guided bronchoscopy is a new field of research, essential for the development of advanced investigation of the airways and lung tissue. Consecutive problem-based solutions and refinements are urgent requisites to achieve improvements. For that purpose, our intention is to build a complete research platform for electromagnetic guided bronchoscopy. The experimental interventional ...

Tracked Ultrasound Elastography (TrUE)

This paper presents a robust framework for freehand ultrasound elastography to cope with uncertainties of freehand palpation using the information from an external tracker. In order to improve the quality of the elasticity images, the proposed method selects a few image pairs such that in each pair the lateral and out-of-plane motions are minimized. It controls the strain rate by choosing the a...

Fiducial-Free Registration Procedure for Navigated Bronchoscopy

Navigated bronchoscopy has been developed by various groups within the last decades. Systems based on CT data and electromagnetic tracking enable the visualization of the position and orientation of the bronchoscope, forceps, and biopsy tools within CT data. Therefore registration between the tracking space and the CT volume is required. Standard procedures are based on point-based registration...

A multimodal image guiding system for Navigated Ultrasound Bronchoscopy (EBUS): A human feasibility study

BACKGROUND Endobronchial ultrasound transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) is the endoscopic method of choice for confirming lung cancer metastasis to mediastinal lymph nodes. Precision is crucial for correct staging and clinical decision-making. Navigation and multimodal imaging can potentially improve EBUS-TBNA efficiency. AIMS To demonstrate the feasibility of a multimodal image guid...

Navigated liver biopsies in a closed-bore MR scanner: first clinical experience

Introduction/Purpose Most image-guided interventions such as biopsies or tumor ablations can be readily performed under CT or ultrasound guidance. MRI may be indicated whenever a suspect lesion can not reliably be visualized with these imaging modalities [1]. In a standard 1.5T MRI scanner, however, the remaining space is practically too small to handle an instrument inside the bore. Freehand b...
