چکیده

Let (X,S) and (Y, T ) be topological dynamical systems and π : X → Y a factor map. A function F ∈ C(X) is a compensation function for π if P (F + φ ◦ π) = P (φ) for all φ ∈ C(Y ). For a factor code between subshifts of finite type, we analyze the associated relative entropy function and give a necessary condition for the existence of saturated compensation functions. Necessary and sufficient conditions for a map to be a saturated compensation function will be provided.

Higher-dimensional Subshifts of Finite Type, Factor Maps and Measures of Maximal Entropy

We investigate factor maps of higher-dimensional subshifts of finite type. In particular, we are interested in how the number of ergodic measures of maximal entropy behaves under such factor maps. We show that this number is preserved under almost invertible maps, but not in general under finite to one factor maps. One of our tools, which is of independent interest, is a higher-dimensional char...

The chaotic properties of some subshift maps are investigated. These subshifts are the orbit closures of certain non-periodic recurrent points of a shift map. We first provide a review of basic concepts for dynamics of continuous maps in metric spaces. These concepts include nonwandering point, recurrent point, eventually periodic point, scrambled set, sensitive dependence on initial conditions...

Subshifts of Quasi-Finite Type

We introduce subshifts of quasi-finite type as a generalization of the well-known subshifts of finite type. This generalization is much less rigid and therefore contains the symbolic dynamics of many non-uniform systems, e.g., piecewise monotonic maps of the interval with positive entropy. Yet many properties remain: existence of finitely many ergodic invariant probabilities of maximum entropy;...

A Comment on the Definition of Relative Pressure

We show that two natural definitions of the relative pressure function for a locally constant potential function and a factor map from a shift of finite type coincide almost everywhere with respect to every invariant measure. With a suitable extension of one of the definitions, the same holds true for any continuous potential function. The introduction to the paper [3] included, for factor maps...

Factor Maps between Tiling Dynamical Systems Draft—february 1, 2008

We show that there is no Curtis-Hedlund-Lyndon Theorem for factor maps between tiling dynamical systems: there are codes between such systems which cannot be achieved by working within a finite window. By considering 1-dimensional tiling systems, which are the same as flows under functions on subshifts with finite alphabets of symbols, we construct a ‘simple’ code which is not ‘local’, a local ...
