چکیده

Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS)are clinically characterized by morphological dysplasias of blood cells and cytopenias of variable combinations due to ineffective hematopoiesis (1). They often transform into acute myeloid leukemia (AML) as designated preleukemic syndromes. About 60% of cases with MDScarry a non-randomchromosomeabnormality such as -7, 7q-, -5, 5q-, 20qetc and/or complex abnormalities, proving that MDSis a clonal hemopathy which originates in a multipotent hematopoietic stem cell.

Immune abnormalities in myelodysplastic syndromes.

The immune states of 52 patients with myelodysplastic syndromes classified according to the FAB criteria were studied. Serum electrophoresis and immunoelectrophoresis, direct Coombs test, and tests for organ and non-organ specific antibodies were performed. Twenty six patients had immunoglobulin abnormalities: six (11.5%) had monoclonal gammopathy; 17 (32.6%) had polyclonal increases in serum i...

Erythrocyte autoantibodies, autoimmune haemolysis, and myelodysplastic syndromes.

Immunohaematological investigations were carried out in 46 patients with erythrocyte autoantibodies associated with myelodysplastic syndromes. Eight patients had refractory anaemia, 17 refractory anaemia with ring sideroblasts, 11 refractory anaemia with excess of blasts, four chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia, five refractory anaemia with excess of blasts in transformation and one could not be ...

Aplastic anemia evolving to myelodysplastic syndrome and later to a lymphoproliferative malignancy in a treated case of carcinoma breast: A case report emphasizing the importance of PET-CT in cutaneous T cell lymphoma

Although aplastic anemia (AA) and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) are separate entities with different management, distinction between the two can be difficult on morphological basis due to hypocellularity of bone marrow. MDS is one of the serious complications of AA. Karyotyping is definitive in the diagnosis of MDS. Better and robust investigations like 18F-Fluoro-deoxy-Glucose Posi...

Innate immune signaling in the myelodysplastic syndromes.

Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are heterogeneous clonal hematologic malignancies characterized by cytopenias caused by ineffective hematopoiesis and propensity to progress to acute myeloid leukemia. Innate immunity provides immediate protection against pathogens by coordinating activation of signaling pathways in immune cells. Given the prominent role of the innate immune pathway in regulating...
