Performance of Time-Bound Negotiation in Agent-Based Manufacturing Control
نویسنده
چکیده
Agent-based software technology plays an important role in the manufacturing industry for achieving agility. Shop floor control applications can be designed based on the paradigm of agent negotiation to cope with variabilities and disturbances in the production environment. This often involves the contract net protocol (CNP) and previous research has suggested that the timing parameters of CNP can affect significantly the performance of agent negotiation. This work extends our knowledge in this area of research by considering the performance effects of the combinatorial variations of these parameters in a discrete-event simulation case study. The results provide not only a deeper understanding of the time-bound agent negotiation process, but also insights into the performance fine-tuning of CNP-based control schemes.

Improving Agent Performance for Multi-Resource Negotiation Using Learning Automata and Case-Based Reasoning
In electronic commerce markets, agents often should acquire multiple resources to fulfil a high-level task. In order to attain such resources they need to compete with each other. In multi-agent environments, in which competition is involved, negotiation would be an interaction between agents in order to reach an agreement on resource allocation and to be coordinated with each other. In recent ...
متن کاملA Time-Bound Framework for Negotiation and Decision Making of Virtual Manufacturing Enterprise
Virtual manufacturing has 2 characteristics as an agent-based electronic commerce environment: dynamic nature of resource status and variety of agents’ decision-making (i.e., scheduling) model. To reflect the characteristics, a relevant negotiation protocol should be designed and an appropriate decision-making model should be developed. In this article, from the perspective of a sales agent tha...
متن کاملEffects of Negotiation Mechanisms on Performance of Agent Based Manufacturing Systems
This paper proposes new inter{agent negotiation mechanisms for improving the performance of agent based or decentralized manufacturing systems. The focus of this paper is on demonstrating eeciency of diierent negotiation and collaboration schemes between agents of the same class (parts, machines, etc) and inter{class negotiations using currency metrics. The cooperation and negotiation protocols...
متن کاملDynamic Negotiation for Real-Time Manufacturing Execution
This paper presents a dynamic negotiation framework for real-time execution in self-organised manufacturing environments. The negotiation strategies in this framework bridge the gap between distributed negotiation of self-interested agents and cooperative negotiation among agent groups. In particular, the proposed framework is based on the model of Performance and Cost for Manufacturing Executi...
متن کاملCross-Cultural Time Sensitivity in a Bilateral E-Negotiation System
For a long time, culture has been an influencing parameter in negotiations. Growth of international trades and business competitions has increased the importance of negotiations among countries and different cultures. Developing new technologies, particularly the use of artificial intelligence in electronic trading areas, has provided us with the application of intelligent agents to resolve cha...
