QoS for real-time multicast over satellites

چکیده
Next generation satellite systems are ideally suited for multicast and real-time traffic. Therefore, it is highly attractive to offer IP multi-videoconference services over IP multicast enabled satellite systems, combining link efficiency and access to remote areas. ICEBERGS project, presented in this paper, addresses the integration of IP video and IP multicast in EuroSkyWay geostationary satellite system. Its initial architecture must be upgraded to cope with IP multicast real-time services. Given the importance of integration with existing IP networks, i.e. Internet, also the necessary implications are analysed.

“Towards a New Generation of IP-based Satellites”
A key factor for success of next generation satellite system is the capability of fully and efficiently supporting IP-based applications. On the one hand, IP will facilitate integration of satellite with the global terrestrial infrastructure, on the other hand, it will pose new challenges related to a number of advanced interworking functions which are currently under study. These not only appl...
متن کاملOptimizing QoS-Based Multicast Routing in Wireless Networks: A Multi-objective Genetic Algorithmic Approach
With increasing demand for real-time services in next generation wireless networks, quality-of-service (QoS)-based routing offers significant challenges. Multimedia applications like video conferencing, real-time streaming of stock quotes or processing of scientific images relayed from satellites require strict QoS guarantee (e.g. bandwidth, delay) while communicating among multiple hosts. This...
متن کاملQos Enabled Communication Support over Multicast Ad Hoc Networks: An Overview
Multicasting Routing in Mobile Ad hoc networks faces various issues related to Quality of Services (QoS) which suffer from behavior of routing protocols, topology, group management, security and group mobility. QoS constraints can be categorized by their application domains also i.e. for military, we need to maintain QoS for confidentiality and data integrity by compromising with control overhe...
متن کاملAn Architecture for Scalable QoS Multicast Provisioning
IP multicast suffers from scalability problems as the number of concurrently active multicast groups increases, since it requires a router to keep forwarding state for every multicast tree passing through it. In QoS multicast provisioning, the problem becomes even worse, since not only the forwarding state but also the resource requirement of a multicast group needs to be kept at the router. Pr...
متن کاملEnabling Real-Time Distributed Virtual Simulation over the Internet Using Host-Based Overlay Multicast
Many-to-many multicast transmission is an essential network capability for scalable distributed simulation. The many open issues that make network-layer multicast impractical over the Internet today are likely to continue to be insurmountable and to prevent deployment in a manner that will meet the Quality of Service (QoS) and many-to-many multicast needs of real-time distributed virtual simula...
