Requirements Engineering Decision Making: Relationships among Decision Characteristics

چکیده
Time efficiency is crucial for decision making in large scale Market Driven Requirements Engineering. In order to identify what factors influence the decision lead time and outcome, we conducted a retrospective case study at a large product software manufacturer and analyzed seven possible relationships among decision characteristics. A large requirements engineering decision log was used to statistically test all hypotheses and the results were cross-validated using a survey among similar software manufacturers. The validated results show that the number of products affected by a decision has a positive relationship with the time needed to take a decision. Furthermore, a higher number of products implies a longer decision lead time. Results also show that when a change request originates from an important customer, the request is sooner accepted than changes requested internally. For efficient requirements management, our findings support that decision making activities can be carefully refined in large scale requirements engineering processes. Exploring factors affecting decision outcome and lead time in large-scale requirements engineering
Lead-time is crucial for decision–making in market-driven requirements engineering. Lead-time efficiency allows software companies to focus their resources on the most profitable functionality, and enables to remain competitive on the fast-changing software market. Achieving and sustaining low decision leadtime and the resulting high decision efficiency, requires better understanding of factors...
متن کاملA New Group Data Envelopment Analysis Method for Ranking Design Requirements in Quality Function Deployment
Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is an objective method for priority determination of decision making units (DMUs) with the same multiple inputs and outputs. DEA is an efficiency estimation technique, but it can be used for solving many problems of management such as rankig of DMUs. Many researchers have found similarity between DEA and MCDM techniques. One of the earliest techniques in MCDM is...

متن کاملA novel approach in robust group decision making for supply strategic planning
Long-term planning is a challenging process for dealing with problems in big industries. Quick and flexible process of responding to the existing variable requirements are considered in such problems. Some of important strategic decisions which should be made in this field are, namely the way that manufacturing facilities should be applied as well as assignment and design the system of delivery...
متن کاملMechanism for selecting the appropriate decision-making model for Temporary Post-Disaster Housing
Background and objective: Disaster, natural or else, are phenomena that occur suddenly and unknowingly, and therefore in most cases, it is difficult to deal with them in a principled and rapid manner. The main reason for this is that the duration of these phenomena is relatively short and it can be psychologically difficult to show a quick and appropriate reaction due to the existing fear. Ther...
