Monotonicity in Rule Based Update
نویسنده
چکیده
An important characteristic for many formulations of knowledge representation and reasoning is that they are nonmonotonic. It has been, however, illustrated that under certain conditions, a formulation may satisfy some restricted monotonicity in its reasoning 2]. In this paper, we investigate this issue under the context of rule based update. We rst present a general framework of rule based update in which a knowledge base is viewed as a set of literals and can be updated with a set of update rules which is represented by an extended logic program (also called update program). We then show that given a knowledge base B and an update program , (1) there exist some facts that can be always added into B such that updating the expansion of B with will not destroy any fact obtained from the update of B with , and (2) on the other hand, there also exist some update rules that can be always added into such that updating B with the expansion of will not destroy any fact obtained from the update of B with. We illustrate how these results can be used to simplify an update evaluation. Our proofs of restricted monotonicity theorems are based on a generalization of Lifschitz-Turner's Splitting Set Theorem on extended logic programs 4].

Learning Rule Ensembles for Ordinal Classification with Monotonicity Constraints
Ordinal classification problems with monotonicity constraints (also referred to as multicriteria classification problems) often appear in real-life applications, however, they are considered relatively less frequently in theoretical studies than regular classification problems. We introduce a rule induction algorithm based on the statistical learning approach that is tailored for this type of p...
متن کاملA non-linear programming-based similarity reasoning scheme for modelling of monotonicity-preserving multi-input fuzzy inference systems
In this paper, the zero-order Sugeno Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) that preserves the monotonicity property is studied. The sufficient conditions for the zero-order Sugeno FIS model to satisfy the monotonicity property are exploited as a set of useful governing equations to facilitate the FIS modelling process. The sufficient conditions suggest a fuzzy partition (at the rule antecedent part) and...

Based on a “monotonicity” analogue of the l’Hospital Rule, monotonicity properties of the relative error are established for a Padé approximation of Mills’ ratio.

The deferred acceptance algorithm is often used to allocate indivisible objects when monetary transfers are not allowed. We provide two characterizations of agent-proposing deferred acceptance allocation rules. Two new axioms, individually rational monotonicity and weak Maskin monotonicity, are essential to our analysis. An allocation rule is the agent-proposing deferred acceptance rule for som...
متن کاملMonotonicity of fuzzy rule bases: On differences between graded and non-graded approaches
This contribution provides an exhaustive explanation of the graded approach to the monotonicity property (of a fuzzy relation) and its non-graded version. Our framework is algebraic. We present a wide variety of examples to support our claims relating to the well defined notion and suitability for fuzzy rule base applications and moreover, to improve the readability of the following mathematica...
