Characterization of Solid Contaminants in Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Residential Split Systems and Their Effect On Compressor Reliability
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper describes the study conducted to characterize the solid contaminants that are present in residential split systems. New systems and service systems were evaluated. The study identifies the sources and the effect of these contaminants on compressor reliability. The paper describes the device and the techniques to entrap the solid contaminants in actual field installations. The laboratory evaluation procedures to characterize the weight, size distribution, and elemental analysis of solid residue particles are described. This paper includes comments on currently available protection devices and .their use in systems to maintain system cleanliness.

Fred Keller Split Systems Director The National Appliance Energy Conservation Act has established a minimum efficiency of 10 SEER for residential split system air conditioners and heat pumps. Approximately 50% of residential split system air conditioners are sold as replacements for units having much lower SEER levels, typically 5-9 Btu/W·h. This investigation assessed the detrimental affects t...

One of the most challenging issues in modern-day building energy management involves equipping the buildings with more energy efficient facilities. In this paper, a hybrid system for cooling/heating for a residential building is developed and optimized. The system consists of a ground source heat pump (GSHP) as well as an electric chiller (EC) and boiler. The model is implemented in MATLAB ...

متن کاملAir Source Heat Pump for Northern Climates Part II: Measurement and Verification
Air source heat pumps are widely used for residential heating because of their relatively low installation costs. Major disadvantages are that the heat output and COP decrease and the discharge temperature of the compressor increases as the outdoor temperature decreases. All of these factors usually lead to the need of combined heat pump and backup heating systems, which increases the cost and ...
متن کاملReducing Compressor Noise While Considering System Interactions
Refrigerant compressors can be a primary noise source in residential air conditioning and heat pump systems. When evaluating the contribution of a compressor to the total noise, it is necessary to consider how the compressor couples to the condensing unit. Compressors typically couple to the condensing unit via three different types of noise paths. First, the compressor couples structurally to ...
