چکیده

at analytically characterizing the achievable angles between u Φ and v Φ . Motivated by geometric interpretations of RIP and with the aid of the well-known law of cosines, we propose a plane geometry based formulation for the study of the considered problem. It is shown that all the RIP-induced norm/distance constraints on u Φ and v Φ can be jointly depicted via a simple geometric diagram in the two-dimensional plane. This allows for a joint analysis of all the considered algebraic constraints from a geometric perspective. By conducting plane geometry analyses based on the constructed diagram, closed-form formulae for the maximal and minimal achievable angles are derived. Computer simulations confirm that the proposed solution is tighter than an existing algebraic-based estimate derived using the polarization identity. The obtained results are used to derive a tighter restricted isometry constant of structured sensing matrices of a certain kind, to wit, those in the form of a product of an orthogonal projection matrix and a random sensing matrix. Follow-up applications to three CS problems, namely, compressed-domain interference cancellation, RIP-based analysis of the orthogonal matching pursuit algorithm, and the study of democratic nature of random sensing matrices are investigated.

A Generalized Restricted Isometry Property

Compressive Sampling (CS) describes a method for reconstructing high-dimensional sparse signals from a small number of linear measurements. Fundamental to the success of CS is the existence of special measurement matrices which satisfy the so-called Restricted Isometry Property (RIP). In essence, a matrix satisfying RIP is such that the lengths of all sufficiently sparse vectors are approximate...

On partial sparse recovery

We consider the problem of recovering a partially sparse solution of an underdetermined system of linear equations by minimizing the l1-norm of the part of the solution vector which is known to be sparse. Such a problem is closely related to a classical problem in Compressed Sensing where the l1-norm of the whole solution vector is minimized. We introduce analogues of restricted isometry and nu...

Rigorous Restricted Isometry Property of Low-Dimensional Subspaces

Dimensionality reduction is in demand to reduce the complexity of solving largescale problems with data lying in latent low-dimensional structures in machine learning and computer version. Motivated by such need, in this work we study the Restricted Isometry Property (RIP) of Gaussian random projections for low-dimensional subspaces in R , and rigorously prove that the projection Frobenius norm...

On Partially Sparse Recovery

In this paper we consider the problem of recovering a partially sparse solution of an underdetermined system of linear equations by minimizing the `1-norm of the part of the solution vector which is known to be sparse. Such a problem is closely related to the classical problem in Compressed Sensing where the `1-norm of the whole solution vector is minimized. We introduce analogues of restricted...

Exact and stable recovery of sequences of signals with sparse increments via differential [subscript 1]- minimization

We consider the problem of recovering a sequence of vectors, (xk)k=0, for which the increments xk−xk−1 are Sk-sparse (with Sk typically smaller than S1), based on linear measurements (yk = Akxk + ek)k=1, where Ak and ek denote the measurement matrix and noise, respectively. Assuming each Ak obeys the restricted isometry property (RIP) of a certain order—depending only on Sk—we show that in the ...
